Man, at my support job I've got about a dozen applications open at least at any given time.
I'm not waiting for shit to launch again over and over while I'm working tickets.
And "creative" productivity software like Photoshop can use many gigs at a time. You may only have it open and be using more then 8 gigs with that alone.

I'm bouncing files back and forth between Photoshop, After Effects and Cinema 4D and I regularly exceed 16gb
