ITT: We talk unix. What are you running and where? Whats to hate/love? Would you recommend it to others?

I am. Using it on a x61, plays nicely with the hardware. All in all its a nice system. You can compile from source via ports or install packages. Both works in an comfy way.

Its not a real bsd. Its some mangled mach kernel with bsd userland. But it follows similar ideas.

Why making /bsd/ threads ? It's away empty and it ends with license wars.

Why can't I boot FreeBSD from a USB stick?

I dd the .img to the USB but the computer doesn't recognize it. For comparison, dd-ing NetBSD's .img and any linux's ISO to a USB works.

Seems like the only way to install FreeBSD is via CD drive, which I don't have.
