I just did. It wasn't by surprise though, she asked for it because my laptop looks well and runs stable. Her laptop is about 5 years old and the windows 10 installation is pretty much broken and needs literally 5 minutes to boot. I installed mint on a second partition and put grub on an sd card so she doesn't has to worry about any traces when she wants to go back. It's been 3 weeks now and she seems happy with it, although she isn't quite used to pulling her software from the repo and gets annoyed by entering her password for every update. Also, because the computer is so slow, the login dialog after suspend takes a while to come up. She says it's better than windows, but still.

Anybody knows a good solution for that?

i installed it on my gf's (not a gf back then) computer, not by surpsrise though. some problems were frustrating, but she stuck with it while dualbooting w10. she later got rould to install arch with my help and is using that exclusively. she wanted to still dualboot, because inkscape did not support bspline, but we compiled the bzr version and she is happy.
