Let me give you an insight into what it was like on BBS's and Usenet back in the day. On tech-related boards/forums/newsgroups in OS-related threads there were Windows, OS/2, BeOS, Amiga and Atari ST shitposting factions.

Just like today in OS-related threads on /g/, there's Windows, OSX, Linux, Unix, BSD, etc. shitposting factions.

Not much different I think.
If commodore didn't go bankrupt after the IBM compatibles took over, they would have either been bought by another Computer Company or would have settled with creating low cost e-machine type IBM compatibles maybe with some emulated backwards capability.

So if they survived until today, they would propably be the Kind of Company to manufacture These low cost "thin Client" type machines for Schools and small buisenesses, but nothing bleeding edge or groundbreaking.
