Is "the cloud" just a buzzword or is it actually the next big thing?

Yes, it's a 'next big thing' to rip you off your privacy, claiming your data are being kept in little happy cloud floating thru little blue happy sky. It's a manifestation of what films like "Terminator" and "The Matrix" warned about.

just a buzzword
meme worthy

Has this this thread time travelled from 2011?

Just use your noggin, pal. Don't use the cloud for EVERYTHING, do use it for things where the convenience obviously far outweighs any security concerns. It's not complicated. Gotta strike a balance to live in the modern world.

Its 2016 and "the cloud" hasnt done much that wasnt already being done in some form. Cloud storage has been around. What's the supposed big leap forward going to bring?
>>57953821
it was "the next big thing" a couple of years ago.
There is no cloud, just someone else's computer.

It's a meme concept to help normies make sense of computers. You can say 'there is no cloud', but it doesn't really matter, it enables normies to understand enough of what's going on in order to use technology effectively.
