Are all vpns the same? Currently I'm using CyborGhost or Operas built in VPN because they're free. What do you guys use if say you wanna download software on the sly?

No, some are shit because they're slow, others are shit because they store logs, others are shit because they offer few locations, others are shit because they block p2p, etc
There's not a perfect VPN, but you need to realize what you're looking for and make the product you're buying has those features.
I honestly only look if they keep logs, if they block p2p and the price. I jump from a VPN to another every year (or multiple times a year) since I usually get promos etc to save money. Right now I have cyber ghost (humble bundle), anonvpn (it was only 1$ for 1 year) and AirVPN (but only for another month).
