How do I install irssi or bitchx on sdf.org?
I've got an account, but irssi isn't installed. I've tried some netBSD binaries, but I keep getting an error when trying to run it:
exec format error: ./irssi
account verified? arpa membership? doubt they make irc available to just anyone

Verified account, no arpa membership.
But I'm wondering why can't I run my own application if I upload it via SFTP?

they probably got it locked down, but also are you sure the binary is compatible? i think they run netbsd, and no clue what architecture
>>57936524
their systems are just regular amd64 boxes nowadays
>>57936542
boring, but understandable

Downloaded from here: ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/current/pkgsrc/chat/irssi/README.html
(tried both i386 and 64bit versions)

`file` will tell you what kind of binary it is. sounds like you grabbed the wrong arch

>file irssi
>irssi: ERROR: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs)error reading (File too large)

There's your clue.

Yes... But why?
Does the SDF have a limit or something?

the admin of a public-access server thats been running in some form since 1987 probably locks that stuff down, yes
