My laptop has shit the bed /g/. I don't have enough money to spend on a top of the line assured high spec laptop right now and need something to replace my dying one right now. I'm somewhere within the budget of $500-800. Are there any cheaper laptops that I can buy that offers good performance and hardware quality?
Is there a guide for shit like this? Are Thinkpads good for general use?
Just get an 2011-2012 model thinkpad. Look on eBay you can probably get a decent one for $300 or less and install an SSD and maybe more ram and you will be set for any basic browsing and software needs.

yes
Buy an HP EliteBook from a couple of years ago. You'll get an i5, 8G of ram, 128G SSD for under $300. Same with Dell Latitudes.

What do you use your laptop for?
You can easily find one under $500. The only thing that matters is what you need.

Dell Inspirions can bounce around 600$ range for solid cpu. Im using an older model and it works great still.

Why do people want high-end laptops?
>I want to do video-processing
Why not get a desktop?
>I want to do gaming
Why not get a desktop?
If you are in college, you probably bring your desktop to your dorm (I know someone who does and literally nobody cares). What does it matter if you share a dorm?

Thinkpads are great. They're thick and heavy but are some of the most feature packed and functional laptops on the market. Thinkpads are one of the few /g/ memes I'm glad I fell for.

Taking a desktop back and forth from your dorm to home is a massive hassle

Maybe because desktops aren't mobile? I'm looking to buy a decent laptop even though I have a good desktop just because I would like to go places and not have a shit computer
