Pic related. My first ever build that I just finished. I was doing some wiring work on it today but I finally feel confident about it.

Why is water cooling more commun for CPUs when GPUs run hotter/make more noise?
>>
>>57929637
you have to modify a GPU to add water cooling and that voids the warranty. High end cpu's dont come with coolers so its normal to add any cooler you like.

Unless the 1080 Ti is priced similarly to the 1070, it's not going to matter. I got the first one for around $60 under market value and the second one for around $125 under market value. I don't pay retail for GPUs.

Is there anything I can do for my bricked card?

It's a GTX 970 so it is a peice of shit that gave me more trouble than its worth, but getting a better one is going to cost me something like £400.

Well, I was planning on doing a dual vega card build but not sure if two will be necessary. The 480 is actually plenty for what I play but I'm not going to like, just like someone who would buy a 707hp Challenger Hellcat, you may never actually use the horsepower but damn is it nice to know you will never not have enough. That's where I'm coming from.

Plus apparently PSUs will run most efficiently at ~50-60% utilization so I guess I can justify it that way. Figure I'm probably at about 3-500 watts at any given time. Also I just wanted a platinum PSU since my previous CX750M always seemed to run pretty hot and I liked the idea of a really efficient PSU. Was actually going to get a T2 but Microcenter didn't have a 1000 T2 and the P2 was on sale.

Well /g/, I'm finally at a point where I feel comfortable posting my guts in here. Needs a bit more work (needs some more red, right now it looks like the red is in the build unintentionally) and another intake fan either on the bottom or above the front rad if I can squeeze it in. Might paint the PCIe slot covers red as the white sticks out big time. When I stop being lazy I'll swap out that rear fan for a black one, but eh.

Hardly. Maybe the original models from 10 years ago, but anything from the last 3 or so years are really good. Pumps are silent and any sound is reliant on what fans you stick to them. Failure is not an option either. They're made well provided you're not intentionally fucking with the tubes.

All of them come from one of two companies so no matter what you get, it's going to be more or less the same.

Barracuda AC-1 Audio Card.

Not worth retail but definitely worth what I paid for it, especially considering the motherboards I generally use have shitty or no audio.

Perfectly fine if you're not running the nuts off it...which is likely to be 99% of people who buy something on more of a budget.

Of course if you're the sort of person looking to do the most epic overclocks ever and then running that bastard to max wattage in some sort of tropical heatwave then fine, your point holds.

If you're a regular person doing more regular things it'll be decent enough for the money.

Dusty as fuck, cheaped out on the PSU so the cable management is ass, cables of memefans are everywhere, GPU is sagging like my grandma's tits, CPU cooler is a downblower.

I wanna upgrade something, but what? I've been thinking non-retarded CPU cooler, but it idles between 25 and 30°C, not exceeding 40°C under load. Getting a modular PSU with custom cables is a lot of money for minor aesthetics.

Hm... Interesting... What's wrong with a dual CPU board...I never thought of a server board in a desktop gaming PC. Are those full X16 slots? How old is that board? How much did it cost?

I am all for NOT buying "gayming" gear if it's cost-effective.

Though I'm an AMD fag so I don't know how much stuff that is worth its weight in dirt they have on the server side.

My thoughts are run a dual CPU setup like you have, beautiful, then run the crossfire or whatever dual card protocol is the meme next year, and since it's a server board it probably has all of the PCIE buses running at full speed for RAID cards and shit...And a server board would be pretty reliable ideally. Probably none or very little room for overclocking whatsoever (what business overclocks their servers???) but that's not a huge deal.

Hang on this might not be a bad idea, but in the current market I'd have to go Intel I think.

What's the catch on this? The fact that modern market server boards are ass expensive? I mean my Fractal R2 XL could support a full size server board...So no fancy case needed, it has the standoff holes..

Best build in the thread IMO. Giving me ideas.

Me again, also, loving those Zalman coolers. I almost bought one of their biggest ones for my current rig but went with a Cryorig R1 ultimate with Noctua 3000RPM 140's instead. I've always loved Zalman's coolers. Looks and design. Only complaint I have on Zalman is that it doesn't look like you can change the fan out if something breaks, or, it's a proprietary design. That's one thing that steered me toward the R1U.

I only need three drive bays really

But if I got mini ITX then suddenly I have this mess with no cable management/water cooling space

Before I got my current mini-ITX setup, I had a dual 2670 build. The only real catches are (usually) no onboard audio and no sleep ability, along with not-so-great single core performance. Otherwise they're fantastic. I think I had the same board as >>57942252, but I covered mine in black paper so fags in /guts/ threads wouldn't see green and think it's shitty. You can also get obscene amounts of ram for VERY cheap.

My current build uses a $200 12-core engineering sample Xeon in an X99 board
>>
>>57950872

Very well...Man no need to cover it with paper show off that dank green PCB. Fuck all these aestheticfags who think your PC HAS to fit into a certain mold to be visually attractive.

Seriously these server boards are hardcore badass. Really thinking about it but I don't want to leave AMD and I do require better single core performance. I don't think I even max out my single 8350 at all. But god damn does that look cool.

So,
>Sleep
Not that worried. I use it now but for the longest time sleep just flat out would not stay asleep so I got used to shutdown, not a huge deal.
>No onboard audio
Not an issue as well, half decent soundcards are cheap.
>Reduced single core performance
That's my kicker.
>Tons of cheap RAM
Yes but is that like at least DDR3 and ECC enabled RAM?

I've been thinking about doing a home server build as-cheap-as-possible. My starting point right now however is an Intel DQ77MK board I got for work for next to nothing. Nothing near a server-tier board but it can support a good amount of DDR3 (I think) RAM and has an onboard hardware RAID controller, and is micro-ATX formfactor. Onboard video too. I want to turn that into a virtual host that can run a NAS box, maybe an install of Windows (or Linux if it supports it) for a TF2 or Gmod server, maybe a web server or something stupid. I don't know more for honing my nonexistent Linux skills than anything. Board has some dual core I5 on it I think, not sure what GHz but it's half decent.

Also have a DQ57TM I was considering doing the same type of thing with. Actually using that as a FreeNAS box with appropriate upgrades.

Fuck I have two half decent but still shitty mATX Intel desktop boards with onboard RAID. What do as cheap as possible?
