Why are Windows users so obsessed with trash bins?
I keep seeing them on desktop screenshots...
>>
>>57913216
I think the default is to have it on your desktop, which would go a long way in explaining why you see it pretty frequently.
>>
It's default, it's been there since 1995 for me. I like it. I was fucking mad they took out the Windows Classic theme too.
>>
We are? News to me
>>
>>57913216
It's important to see if there are any questionable material leftovers before mom uses it.
>>
>>57913216
I'm disgusted that winfags are even using desktop icons in 2016.
>>
>>57913216
It's default, but it can be turned off by a checkbox.. I don't see a use for the trashbin, I just simply shift delete.
>>
>>57913494
Well windows is aimed at being practical. Something Linux actively aims away from
>>
>>57913514
Desktop icons are not practical though.
>>
>>57913216
Reminder that desktop icons waste useful space that could be used up by anime girls and conky.

Retards, everybody.
>>
>>57913550
How so? Is it not good to use it for temporary and quick storage of icons, I dump all the important shortcuts and programs onto the desktop on the machines at work so I don't have to route through the shit to folder structures our clients give us.

You two are the retards.
>>

>Having to hunt through dozens of icons at random places
Why do you dozens of icons at random places?

>Not just typing the first few letters of the program/file name and pressing enter
Because my hand is on the mouse already?
>>
>>57913589
>Why do you dozens of icons at random places?
I don't. I don't have any desktop icons.
Even then, with desktop icons, you still have to minimise all of your windows to get to them.
>Because my hand is on the mouse already?
And it's not on the keyboard already?
>>

You're literally retarded, aren't you?
>>

Literally one click.

Maybe it's not, is your hand that deterministic?

It works like that on the desktop too.

Why don't you dumbass iconfags show me how quickly you can open your file manager, from within a program that's maximised?
Note, this video includes me having to move the mouse to press record, focusing the correct monitor, and then pressing it again to stop.

I'm not even advocating anything about Linux. You winfags have the search box in the start menu.

>>57913620
What about things that are not on your desktop?

>>57913614
>not being able to remember the position of an icon
Realistically, you'll only be able to remember a few with precision.
>>
>>57913676
>Super key (win key)
>explorer.exe
>Enter

Alternatively
>Ctrl+r
>Explorer.exe
>Entwr
>>
>>57913676
>A few with precision
I know my folder layouts in and out. If something is misplaced or wrong I will know.

I haven't used my main system in months and I can still say by heart where everything is
>>
>>57913720
Sorry, but not everyone is autistic like you.
Anyway, all I have to remember is the name of the program I want to open.
>>
>>57913701
>>Super key (win key)
>>explorer.exe
>>Enter
win key + E opens explorer, anon
>>
>>57913676
Super+E opens the file explorer by default in Windows.
>>
>>57913676
>What about things that are not on your desktop?
You can do it in any folder. I don't know how long the feature has been in Windows but it's old. I remember 2000 had it so it might go back as far as 95 or even 3.
>>
>>57913216
I just Shift+Delete (with unlocker)
>>
>>57913728
>calling other people autistic
>feeling the need of making a webm just to prove wrong some anonymous people on a mongolian image board

Okay m8
>>
>>57913701
Are you functionally retarded?
Windows Key + E opens File Explorer.
If you have it down on your start-menu-that-has-a-more-modern-name-now-thingie, there's a Windows Key + [number] shortcut too, just like in Ubuntu.

If you're suggesting using shortcuts, suggest the short ones.

That only furthers my point.
I don't know your winmeme shortcuts and I just suggested a program I program I knew you would have.
>>
>>57913676
1. Pin Explorer icon to taskbar if you need it so often
2. Start Menu - Explorer (alternatively you can right click Start Menu for a neater list)
3. Minimize all windows via clicking bottom right corner - double click Explorer
>>
>>57913732
>>57913748
I can't tell what's more autistic

The way I do shit or how fast you fucks are to jump on it
>>
>>57913753
Well yeah, it's part of Windows.

Just like how Linux-based operating systems tend to have programs like BASH. (If GNU is so great, why can't they make a shell? Linux 1, Stallman 0)
>>
>>57913759
>1. Pin Explorer icon to taskbar if you need it so often
My point is about an arbitrary program. I should have picked a more obscure example.
You wouldn't have every single program on your computer pinned to your taskbar.
>2. Start Menu - Explorer (alternatively you can right click Start Menu for a neater list)
That is what I am advocating.
>3. Minimize all windows via clicking bottom right corner - double click Explorer
How does that compare to the approximately 0.5 seconds I took to do it?
>>
>>57913753
In Ubuntu I have no icons.
In Windows I have icons but still choose not to use them
>>
>>57913771
>How 0.5 seconds compare to 0.5 seconds?

You can minimise your programs, and locate an arbitrary program on your desktop, as well as refocus the programs you just minimised in 0.5 seconds?
I don't believe you.
>>
>>57913821
Yeah. The start menu is tied to all you folders. Since your desktop is just a folder all you have to do is hit the start button, type the name of the thing on your desktop, and enter/click the icon.
>>
>>57913821
>locate an arbitrary program on your desktop
I don't need to "locate" it. Do you seriously have this issue?
Minimizing and refocusing is done with the same button in bottom right corner.
>>
>>57913853
His point is that this method will always be faster. Try to keep up.
>>
>>57913863
But if you just log on and don't have any programs on your desktop it's fast to click things on your desktop than to go through an extra click of the start menu.
>>
>>57913887
>click of the start menu
Use your keyboard, you baby.
>>
>>57913907
It's still an extra key.
>press keys on desktop and enter to open program
or
>press windows key
>press keys on start menu and enter to open program
>>
>>57913931
Wow, tapping the meta key with your pinky is so hard.
It's not like your hands were already on the keyboard.
>>
This thread has gone apeshit

The Windows 8 start screen is even better in this use case since it's only one button press away and automatically returns to your workspace.
>>
>>57914078
So you dont use a mobile phone, internet banking,or leave the house?
Oh also you are not on the electoral roll then not use any form of store cards or have emails etc?
