>Not even real VP9 hardware decoding, it's crappy hybrid decoding

You know, words had meanings before the internet.

I'm concerned this could end up hurting VP9 in H.265/HEVC's favor more than hurting AMD.

I always love those end of the year AMD driver updates.
Tons of new features/useful features. I'm on GTX 1060 myself, but my spare has RX 480, so I will test those features out.

I'm confused doesn't the Rx 480 have a UVD 6.3 that has VP9 hardware decoding?
Either way I don't really care. My i5-6600K @ 4.4 GHz decodes 4K60FPS VP9 youtube videos just fine with 0 lag and stutter.

Hybrid decoding means some decoding parts are done on the GPU shaders(inefficient) and some are done on the CPU(inefficient).
Intel and Nvidia has real fixed function VP9 hardware decoding with lowest CPU usage and lowest power consumption.
>>57898930
none of that is relevant because watching 4k content on mobile is retarded.

>but does offer a lot more performance than a CPU
Well shilled

Doesn't matter, they're both shit.
Also, AV1 is going to arrive soon enough.

We're a year away from promised hardware integration. It will take another year to trickle down to processors.
>use ReLive to record a shrot clip with the default settings
>not looking bad, no stuttering

I dont really see the issue
4k hardware decode would be nice, but since most people dont even have 4k displays yet, they can easily wait another generation before having the fixed hardware encoders.
Besides, software GPU decoding while it uses more power than hardware decoding, is still better than trying to do pure CPU decoding.
