Help me out here lads.

I'm a britbong currently working in the US for a week and need a new phone before christmas as I'm away for 2 months from the 27th. I was going to order the OP3T to the UK but am sceptical about it arriving in time.

So, recommendations for a phone that is £400/$500 or less that has expandable storage, a decent screen and is readily available. Are there recommended brick and mortar stores in the US to walk in and buy unlocked phones? I know best buy does some but it seems like they're mostly mail order and I only have one free day while I'm here (in NYC), every other day I'll be in a different city so can't really rely on getting anything delivered.

Anything that's available in the UK too would be good.

cheers

I need a cheap Dual SIM Smartphone roughly 5.1" in size for my father.

For whatever reason he bought some random Korean phone off Amazon without me knowing and is dealing with a lot of issues regarding it. The phone has no LTE, not even 4G. Just 3G, despite him being on an LTE network with a data plan. Barely any app works because of this unless connected to WiFi. Can't root it either even with the chink botnet tools.

He only uses it for Facebook and Texting, and I want to get him into music streaming as well.

To give a general idea where he stands with technological intelligence, he thinks more hard drive space will make his laptop faster, and wants a 1 TB hard drive in his laptop despite him never downloading anything, and being stubborn about it.

I know I can fuck around with gsmarena and what not, just want to know what to avoid because I'm only really familiar with the high end smartphone market, not low budget dual sim.

That's the thing. Motorola claims it is compatible out of the box. but there are a lot of forum posts online saying Verizon claims it isn't. It could just be a older issue where they didn't have it in the data base. But i don't want to drop cash on a phone if it wont even work with the provider.

Nextbit Robin shill here with some size comparisons and shit. Sorry for the camera quality.

The phone is nice so far. Good screen. Quick performance (although I think I might flash to cyanogenmod for even better performance). Looks nice. Build quality is great, feels very nice in hand. It is very thin but also long. Comfortable to hold. Fingerprint reader is perfect -- having it on the side on the power button is perfect. Solid camera. It does indeed support ALL GSM bands in USA for full bars.

Overall, 8/10 experience so far. Fantastic for $170.

>>
>>57893264
woa hater alert

It looks cool imo, but to each their own. I've gotten multiple complements for it already actually, after using it 2 days.

I also considered the redmeme, but the lack of 4G support was a killer for me. The specs are still good, SD808, 3GB RAM, and 32GB on board is 2015-2016 flagship tier specs. I haven't even used the cloud storage yet, and you don't have to. The bootloader is unlocked and they still honor your warranty if you flash another ROM. There is surprisingly good ROM support and the community is active.

Overall, it is definitely a great viable budget smartphone. The Redmemes are still also great viable budget smartphones. The more options the better.
>>
>>57893368
I was on the edge too, seeing as my 1+1 had 64GB, but I only used about 25GB on my rip 1+1.

The RN3P does support 4G LTE you know, its called the RN3P Prime or special edition, works with most US bands as well so you dont have to cuck yourself with tmobile for 3G signal anymore.

Besides tempered glass and a sturdy case what else is there?

Regular rn3p (kenzo) supports T-Mobile lte on either band 4 or band 7. International edition adds band 20 which not a lot of us providers use.

The SE only adds B20 and B28 which is useful for Europe. still no B12 or B17 for T-Mobile or AT&T. only B2 and B4 which are not the primary bands. stop spreading misinformation.

Mi5C might be unveiled on Dec 12.

From what I can see leaked, the SoC is slower than the Mi4C, and Mi4C has better front and rear cameras over the RN3P, SD808 is similar to SD650 also (2 big cores 4 little).

If you want 5.5" just buy rn3p. Don't think mi5c will have SD slot, mi4c doesn't either.

>>
>>57894288
How do you know the cm ROM is very buggy if you have the Lenovo phone. I used cm13 daily on my rn3p for months without any issues, used cm14 without any issues a few days after it came out. I switched back to MIUI because I prefer it for a few reasons.

http://mi-globe.com/

This ROM lets you customize and build your miui ROM for any Xiaomi device on demand, based on either official builds or dev builds. I use marshmallow to get xposed and it has the most current security patch. I can buy ANY Xiaomi phone and NOT research what support it has because of this, they will keep getting updated.

MIUI is super battery efficient as well, all their devices get better battery life because of it. Mi4C is almost the same as the Nexus 5X hardware wise and battery size yet Mi4C gets 2x the battery life.

Also ui updates are like all that has happened since lollipop. Doze is one thing but it barely functions or matters when the rn3p lasts 3 days / 12hrs SoT.
>>
>>57894350
They'll take any size with Rockbox assuming you format as FAT32
>>
>>57894357
Shit Camera though.
>>
>>57894357
Because I also browse csg and I see how many people struggle to get fp or camera working after flashing it, or struggle to get the same battery life as before.

On the Lenovo, usually it's vibration that doesn't work, but it's working in the cm rom so at least it has that.

I never understood the fuss with custom roms. Just use what came with your phone.

>don't like the ui
Install a new launcher

>don't like the rom
Root it, then the sky is your limit

It's because those people are fucking retarded, just because people don't know what to do doesn't mean the phone doesn't work. I've not had a single issue that wasn't fixable by knowing what to do. Look on XDA for 5 minutes and you'll know how to get the fingerprint and other stuff working, and why it isn't working.

Everyone can get their phone fully functioning and stable, everything is fucking there and done already a long time ago.

12hrs is actually very easy

This is with my phone at 100% adaptive brightness. About 10% per hour at full brightness. Lower brightness by 30% and you have 12hrs.

SD650 is much more power efficient over the SD616 in the R3P. You realize the RN3P has 2 less big cores and that SD616 is a housefire SoC right?
>>
>>57894370
>>57894408
Some roms are legitimately flawed, MIUI uses up 1.5 GB of ram all by itself and Touchwizz is a battery drainer and gets laggy after a few months of use, in comparison CM13 for a redmeme uses 500 MB idle and never goes past 2 GB even if you have a game, torrent client and music player open at the same time, something i have done a lot of times.

The only stock roms worth using are HTC and Motorola, Nexus and Pixel phones force you to use gmail, chrome and the like instead of the superior k-9 mail and firefox, sure you can just ignore them altogether but with the other two you can disable and even remove them fully if you root, whereas with the Nexus 5X for example youd need to apply any custom rom without gapps to get a similar experience.

It's just paying in smaller amounts than paying upfront. It's more affordable. Just because you can't afford it up front doesn't mean it's not an option.

Yes all phones get 10hr sot battery life

It's always Iphone and older Android phone users asking for chargers, nobody that has an s7 or htc10 or g5 or whatever the fuck ever asks for one. All these phones get like 6-8hr SoT and are fine for normies.

RN3P gets 2-3hrs more SoT than all the current flagships entirely because an above average battery size for the size and weight, sd650 vs sd820/sd821, and an OS skin that's aggressive at battery saving. It's above average but fucking sure it's not k10000 neckbeard deathbrick levels of battery.

Mine rarely ever drops below 50% when I plug it in at night, I really don't give a fuck about better battery life at all. I plug it into a 500mah charger too because I don't give a fuck how long it takes to charge because I'm fucking sleeping

It's subjective.

A phone that can run good gayms and can multitask harder will be used more often and will have a shorter battery life.

A phone that can barely play GBA emulators will obviously be used for less intensive purposes and have a longer battery life.

That could be possible but I won't bet on it. I did a minimal Gapps install and the power safe mode kills background data. (I excluded mails and messenger.)
Also AMOLED screens are only more efficient using a black theme. That's why the average joey gets better sot on a HTC 10 than a s7e.
I never had less than one gb free memory.
Also the pro has much faster storage speed. If you want your meme collection thumbnails to load a half second faster that's noteworthy.
The OEMdroid for the pro seems to be better optimized. You'll have better sot with that if you don't want to root it.
At the end the better camera bigger storage and bigger screen are the most important things to keep in mind imo. You'll get through a day with both of it if you don't shitpost literally all the time.

My phone shows 4+gigs of apps in internal storrage but when I go to the actual list of apps there's one taking up less than 2 gigs and the rest don't even come close to adding up to the remaining amount.

Hey guys, weird question. I'm an American living in Vietnam. Most of the messaging I do on my phone is in English, but I need to send messages in Vietnamese as well.

So I have both languages installed on my keyboard. My problem is that the keyboard sometimes autocorrect to Vietnamese even when I'm typing an English message on the English keyboard. Pic related is an example. The reverse is true too: even when I'm using the vietnamese keyboard, some words autocorrect to English. It's super annoying.

Is there a setting so I only get Vietnamese word recommendations when I'm typing on the Vietnamese keyboard? All of these inter-language autocorrect and predictive typing are getting annoying. I still want autocorrect, but I want each language to stay seperate.

I'm using the stock Samsung keyboard on a Galaxy S4 running android 5.0.1 if that matters.

Here's a pic of the relevant section of my settings. Turning off predictive type for a language turns it off competely. I still want predictive type, I just want only the keyboard language that I'm using at the moment.

I have the S7 and I regret it. Bad enough they ruin Android, but they locked down customization. You need to PAY for an app just to make this garbage usable.

Thank God for the Pixel. I'm switching as soon as I can afford it, which should be the next few days. Pixel has no carrier bloat or any bloat. It's just stock Android which everyone wants. You even get cucked by having to wait for Android on S7 because they need time to install their viruses. S7 is STILL ON FUCKING ANDROID 6 that's unacceptable for a leading phone.

Trash. Picture is JUST bloatware. After all is said and done you've got over 100 things disabled. Without even freeing up storage.

Heart rate monitor is a meme. Phone sucks.

What's the best keyboard for android? Is it SwiftKey? When I had sony the stock keyboard on that was more than decent so I used it, now i have a memeplus 3 and it comes with SwiftKey which I've been using for a few days and seems pretty good to me.

A must have feature for me is the ability to swipe type in multiple languages at once (this rules out the Google keyboard which requires pressing a button to change language).
