I have a computer I built running FreeNAS. I have Plex and transmission running in jails and transmission connects to NordVPN through OpenVPN. I cannot seem to get it download any faster than around 400 kb/s. This wasn't a problem when I download torrents through NordVPN's client and utorrent or whatver torrent client.

Any ideas? Thanks.

So when it comes to interpreted vs compiled languages, why did interpreted become popular to begin with?

The fact that it relies on the user to not only obtain the program but also (in most cases) download an interpreter as well just to be able to run it, when a compiled program is just an .exe that can run on anything. Why does a non compiled option even exist?

I'm pretty shit at programming but I'm learning and trying to wrap my head around a lot of the low level stuff before focusing on other stuff.

Looks like a GPU or display connector problem; could also be a driver problem, boot into a Linux LiveCD before doing anything else, and if it's still fucked, open it up and look for where the display cord goes into the mobo. See if it's properly seated. If not, plug it in properly. If it's a GPU problem you're probably just fucked.

How the FUCK do you get into the bios in windows 10!? I have watched 10+ videos of people doing it online and followed instructions and my machine won't boot into the bios. The UEFI isn't a setting when I go into any of the advanced startup options. I have tried mashing F2/F11/delete on restart but the machine won't ever boot back into windows but nothing comes on the screen.. installed a new SSD and have been trying to get it to boot from that for like a week now.
>>
>>57890863
>How the FUCK do you get into the bios in windows 10!?
It's not Windows dependent. Check your laptop/PC/motherboard manufacturer for info on how to get into UEFI/BIOS.

Since you have installed new SSD, I'm sure you are aware of the fact that it's empty and doesn't have any operating system on it, right? First of all you need to install one (Windows 10) on it to get 'anything on screen'.

I have windows 10 on a lenovo laptop and something is wrong the booting process appearantly. And on top of that, the auto-repair isn't working. I tried many different things to no avail. I ended up just restoring to the last update but now, about 12 hours later, it's done it again. What can I do to repair, or at least repair the auto-repair. I'm not very computer literate so I searched around for about two hours the first time around, even manually trying to fix the auto repair through the command prompt but I ended up just restoring it I should also add that before each time it would do this it would say "restart required" but I kept ignoring it. Both times I have done this I left it paused on a youtube video for a long time to go eat dinner and by the time I got back it was attempting auto repair. Is something wrong with it or is it my fault for not restarting it?

Give me your motherboard model
>about 12 hours later
If your laptop is less than 5 years old, it shouldn't take this long. Also by the description of your problem, it looks to me like you might have a faulty hard drive that needs to be replaced.
> I'm not very computer literate
Honestly here, find someone local that will be able to look it up for you.
Another option is that you just have somehow messed up installation of Windows, which in this case a clean reinstall should fix this problem.

In your case, no. Both modules run at max 1333MHz and in dual channel, so they're both running at max speed not limiting each other. The fact that they're running in dual channel is actually good for performance. Go read about it.

>>57891442
Well easy fix would be to disable sleep timeout in windows settings. It also might be a case of faulty chipset driver in Windows. I seen this happening on some Intel chipsets. In this case, using drivers from laptop/motherboard manufacturer usually works, even when they're not the latest. For intel they're called intel management something.

I'm sorry for being retarded but what is that amd how can I make it stop causing problems. I read a little bit and I think you're saying that the external hardware I'm using may be causing problems? I use a wireless mouse but I also use a flash drive that I take in and out of often. I know that I'm not supposed to pull the flash drive out while its being used so I always use the safely remove option. Sometimes it'll say it can't remove it without me closing a running program and I could exit out of everything and it'll still say that. So I turn the laptop off and pull the flashdrive out. Could that have caused any problems?

Is there a way I can install my android system to the SD card?
I have root and all and not dumb with phones
I have a budget Android phone because poor only 8 gigs of internal storage and an SD card slot (currently only a 2gig old af one I've had in a junk box in it) saw a sale for a 32gig for $7
Even with the bare bones apps o need installed and no games or such, and removing bloatware I do not use, as the cache fills up my phone drops to 300mbs of free space all the time (I have maybe about 700mbs
Even with images or shit I downloaded gone only 700
When it drops below 500 it starts to not get visual voicemail and it won't let me update apps that have like 10meg updates at most
I want to move system to the 32gig I will buy and hope everything is good and or get the 32gig and have everything but the system use sd storage

Yes i can, but this means that when my brother is not using the internet it will still throttle and not download at full speed, thus defeating the purpose of QoS and dynamically shifting the bandwidth

Can anyone advise/link to a proper way to virtualize osX/macOS on Windows 10? I have a nightmare of a problem... my work bought me an iMac to work on when I joined. Fine. But I had to take over a project that the previous team leader who developed a VM provisioning system to have a local playground... made it so it ONLY works on osX/macOS. I don't have a Mac at home.

The problem is that sometimes I work at home. I get paid ok, but have more than enough machines at home, and don't want to spend $1000 + on a machine for one fucking project a previous leader/loser couldn't/didn't care to make cross-OS compatible (I have about 15 projects under my belt where I made the local VM box provisioned to work on Windows, Mac, and Linux; so FUCK him).

Around 3-4 years ago I had osX VMed on Windows 10, but it seems way harder/impossible for me to do now (looking to get it in a VirtualBox or VMWware). I fucking hate Apple's dev ecosystem that requires rediculous buy-in; I can afford it but Africa is fucked lol. Someone should ask Cook how they're helping the IT sector in the Sahara.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/SD793-II-PCM1793-DIR9001-Digital-amplifier/dp/B00A2QLPJM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481146272&sr=8-1&keywords=SMSL+SD793-II+PCM1793+DIR9001+DAC+Digital+Audio+Decoder+amplifier+-+Black

I plugged these headphones:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M30X-Professional-Headphones-Black/dp/B00HVLUQW8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481146229&sr=1-1&keywords=audio+technica+ath+m30x

into the headphone jack at the front and used a 3.5mm to RCA adapter at the rear to plug my amp into the "line out" jack on my computer, all well and good, but I'm pretty sure I've screwed up somewhere.

I have both the PC volume and Amp volume all turned up to MAX, and sound the amp is reproducing is so quiet, like real whisper quiet. I've checked both the amp/cans are compatible, checked what I ordered was actually an amp and not just a DAC (just in case I made a rookie mistake), checked I used the right cables etc, but the amp doesn't seem to be producing any, well, amplification.

Any help would be appreciated,

I have 32GB DDR3 which is built for 2400MHz @ 1.65V, but my processor defaults it to 1.5V @ 1333MHz.

Apparently if I overvolt the RAM (1.65V) to up the clockspeed (to 2400MHz), my CAS timings will go up (from 9-9-9-24 to 11-13-13-31).

I'm not sure what matters more in terms of performance. Is it worth it to overclock/overvolt my RAM if it causes my CAS timings to rise?

Recently I noticed that a game I've been playing, Dark Souls 3, has rather bad pop-in when it comes to loading models as you come closer to them.

A friend suggested that this might have to do with the page file in windows and virtual memory. Only, I don't know shit about that and I find a lot of conflicting info about it.

For some info on my build, I'm using an SSD which I have windows installed on, and I install the games on that aswell. I also have a HDD in there for data storage. I have pretty decent hardware that should be able to run Dark Souls 3 easily with no problem (i7 6700K, gtx1080, 16GB of ram if that's relevant) so I don't think that would be the issue.

So basically the question I have is: Is it possible my page file/virtual memory stuff is misconfigured (I never fucked with it, it's all default) and that's why I get strong pop-in in that game? If so, any guidelines for proper configuration here?
Or is the game just like that and my friend is full of shit? He's been known to be.

Right?
>>
>>57896267
before you start you want your pc to be turned off for at least 30 minutes (1h+ advices) and cool down to the room temperatures

when spraying air don't hold down for a long time, be extra careful around fans.
short bursts, wait for it to stop spinning, redo.

once done you want to leave it for again 30m-1h

make sure to shake the can you actually spray air and not fluids
>>
>>57896267
You don't need to wait at all. Just keep the can upright so the propellant doesn't come out as liquid and make things frosty. I often clean mine with it on so I can watch the dust fly out the back.

Also, have some kind of HEPA in your home. It doesn't eliminate the need to dust, but it can cut it down to once a year and prevents water left out tasting funny and you coughing up fluids constantly. If there's central forced air, that's enough, but if you're in an apartment without anything like that, you'll have about 10x the suspended particles.
>>

Shine a light in the air conditioner and see if there's black mold. Most of them eventually grow some on the foam. Putting a filter on it will drastically lower its efficiency and cost you a bit. A filter on a PC case will be ineffective because there's so many other holes it goes through. So all it will do is restrict airflow.

I've managed to get a pristine Windows 7 image to boot properly from a USB3 slot on my Skylake system using the tool provided by MSI, but whenever I attempt to modify the wim files with DISM, the Windows setup bugs out and doesn't display the version selection screen, then tells me I am missing CD/DVD drivers (which is nonsense). Googling this will just point to USB3 or AHCI problems, but neither of those is correct because I had that shit working before I touched the wim files. Has anyone ever gotten this shit to work?

Also a few questions regarding hardware...

1. You can't just upgrade the CPU, the mobo/BIOS have to be able to support it?

2. You can have more than one RAM stick as long as the clock speed is the same?

3. The RAM DDR is irrelevant if your mobo can't support it?
For example mobo support DDR3 and RAM module is DDR5 it will run as if it was DDR3?

4. You should never use RAM of different storage.

5. Case fan is important and should be set to blow air to the case?

6. Never connect the case USB ports to the mobo since it could short circuit it?

>Yes, if you have an Intel CPU based mobo, look on the njumber of the socket (eg. 1150)
So the BIOS is irrelevant?
>If you have a DDR2 ram mobo and you want to shove in DDR3 it won't work
So mobo support for DDR isn't backwards compatible?
>It's alright if it is the same clock speed.
Same DDR as well?

These some myths I've heard for the "PC repair guy" so I'm asking to know what's right.
Also is this you?

Stop using XP on a network, fucktard. Install Ubuntu. It will probably work. Those generic kernels include everything and the kitchen sink.

Any good sources for pirating Windows 7 these days? My dad has an old desktop he wants to use but he can't remember the password. I tried loading this http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ onto a USB but the PC wouldn't boot it.

you can run
SELECT rev_host, COUNT(*) AS visits

on your places.sqlite, but it's not accurate since firefox only keeps history for a few months by default before purging it.
>>

If you don't know how to boot that, it won't be any different with a Windows 7 installer. You're not qualified to be the family tech guy, so resign and let him do what he will.

As I said, I can't install Ubuntu right now. I know it would run well and all, but I'd likely lose all my files which I can't just put on a drive (about 3,7TB of files for work).
I don't know if I can do a dualboot in this computer, I'm shit at that sort of stuff, and I need to know the approximate size of my install (I only had experience with OpenSUSE.).
>>57898470

Get a BIOS that matches the CPU or your PC will commit sudoku

They aren't backwards compatible, no. GPU's PCI-E express x16 are though, but with limited performance.

Bought a Western Digital, (Black,) WD2003FZEX hard drive and it's alarmingly loud when reading/writing, (which happens almost constantly with the programs I use.)
It doesn't make any clicking or ticking sounds or anything, but it makes a very loud "grinding" sound when reading/writing. Is this normal?

I don't know much about HDDs but they scare the shit out of me because I have lots of important stuff that I don't want to lose, so I'm always backing up my shit and getting paranoid about my hard drive's health.
The noise is definitely worrying, but if it's normal for certain hard drives to be loud while reading/writing, then I won't worry about it. Unless of course the frequency with which my computer does so is a different problem entirely.

I have a shitty comcast modem/router combo (tc8305c) thing, and I would like to upgrade, so that I get better internet around my house. A new modem won't be any faster. A new wireless access point may be. That can be determined by connecting a PC to the Comcast box with a cable. If it's still slow, that means it's all you're getting from their end, nothing to do with the hardware you have.

You should stop renting a modem and buy one, if you're not afraid of shifting the demarcation point. It pays off within a year.

I have tested a wired connection with my laptop and I receive about 100 Mbp/s, but when I test it from the wireless computers around the house it varies from 15 Mbp/s to 30 Mbp/s. What suggestions do you have for a decent router? My budget is about $150.

>>57901994
It's usually on the lower end of the 15-30 Mbp/s unless its the middle of the night or in the middle of a work day.
>>
>>57901963
