>platforms exist that are more open, and easier to modify
>sets the trends, whether good or bad, that competitors try to mimic
>good support for users who want something that "just works"

Is the raspberry pi the macbook of single-board computers?
>>
>>57885270
no
>>
>>57885499
then what is?
>>
>>57885566

there doesn't have to be

there's not a 'macbook' of everything you autistic cuck
>>
>>57885270
>can get a more powerful machine for less money

Like what?
>>
>>57885270
Why does it had to be apple-centric for you?
>>
>>57885270
you fucking autist
how is
>good support for users who want something that "just works"
relevant to the raspberry pi
it's a fucking single board linux computer how the fuck does it "just work"
>>
>>57885270
It's not a macbook, and it's not something that "just works"

It's an educational device to teach children electronics/computing/programming
>>
>>57885270
Are you joking? You think I can't get a more powerful machine than a macbook for its price? The macbook costs 1300$, I could get a Xeon desktop for its pricem

How's that any better or more functional than a RPi?
>>
>>57889019
muh gpio pins.

no really, it's just that i'm searching for ways to use it instead of having it idling, but i did almost everything possible.

OP is special needs.

You sometimes have to SSH in just to get the fucking keyboard working.

You shambles of a human.

Such as?
>>57885618
Orange Pi.
>>
>>57891489
Orange are more expensive than raspberry
>>
>>57885270
The raspberry has USB A, Ethernet and 3.5mm jack.
>>
>>57891737
$18 on eBay.

Orange is must larger than raspberry. Of course it is more expensive.
>>
>>57892492
Orange Zero is 10 and has ethernet+2 usb+tv out +otg, unlike pi zero or chip

But what about your updates? I don't want a device from some chinese-knockoff manufacturer, that can only run a severely outdated Linux and a heavily modified Linaro-spinoff.

Whoops, just realized you were supporting the Raspberry Pi :)
>>
I think you completely failed reading comprehension.
>>
>>57891737
Orangepi pc has almost same specs as RPi 2, yet Opi costs 15 shekels
The Orangepi pc 2 costs 20 shekels and comes very close (if not better than) RPi 3.

Not a shill or anything, but I have both and price/performance of Orangepi can't be beat
>>
>>57894077
But it has no support or community
>>
>>57885566
It's the Raspberry Pi of Raspberry Pis
>>
Don't underestimate the community (guides, problems solved) and software quality and amount. No device comes even close, except Arduino, but that's another category.
>>
I was about to pick one of these up tonight to make a media center so I can get rid of one of my laptops. Is it gonna be shitty and laggy?
>>
>>57889019
Better open source. Better controls and real time applications
>>
>>57897499
Not shitty or laggy, unless you run more intensive programs on it
>>
>>57897499
enjoy the video acceleration until h264 is deprecated next year
>>
I prefer ODROID, since they didn't decide to use the shitty Twitter blockbot and bitch about those who criticized them for it.
>>
>>57889077
program some bots to shitpost on twitter
then do bots retweeting shit
then do bots commenting on images with what's in the images
then do bots solving captchas
then do bots posting they have nothing to do with their singleboard on /g/

then come back.
>>
>>57897499
it can't handle 10bit video and sometimes on very large files it shits the bed and stops displaying subtitles if you start tracking around the file too quickly. other than that it's pretty fine

oh but ssh'ing into them kinda sucks, there's only the one account and it's not enabled by default, and in my experience ftp'ing to them is a nightmare
>>
>>57885270
Yes
>>57885618
Odroid
>>
>>57899374
I dont really support rpi but how the fuck is odroid even mentioned in serious conversations? It takes 0$ to order rpi from chinks and it takes ~15 to order odroid. That fact alone makes it inferior
