New case came for my Redmi 3. It has a soft but grippy faux leather back and the sides have good grip too. Looks much better than the povo 'S Line' tpu case I have for it now (right in photo). Quite happy with it. I would have loved to use the ipaky case but it's useless as it's too slippery. $5 aussie dollars.

RN3P is a great phone, there's every kind of ROM and they're all fully stable, official CM14.1 just came out.

4G is good for calls with VolLTE (helps calls dial out faster, in higher quality), LTE in general helps reduce latency over regular HSPDA+/3.5G, but you can still get like 30mbit/s out of "3G" which is faster than my connection at home... I don't really care about the download speeds myself I care about the call advantage of having LTE.

I'll admit I'm a xiaomi shill, I've bought 3 Mi4C, a Redmi 3S, and an RN3P.

For a "techie" they're an absolute bargain because they're so easy to unlock and do whatever with. It takes me all of 5 minutes to open a Mi4C box, unlock it and flash a bloat-free ROM to it and basically hand someone a $99 Nexus 5X with a 6hr SoT.

Note 4 isn't entirely better, it has worse battery life as well as more heat issues. The X20 chip itself is faster CPU wise but it's much slower GPU wise (if you play games) and it might be worse as a PMP type of thing. RN3P benchmarks about the same as RN4.

The biggest problem with the RN4 is that it uses a mediatek CPU in general. They're bad about releasing proper source code so roms are rarely made for mediatek devices and are almost never stable.

I disagree, there's a significant user difference between the Redmi 3S (42K) and Redmi Note 3 Pro (87k). Apploading is significantly faster in general on the RN3P, even though they basically have the same ROM.

The benchmarks are just numbers, but those numbers do carry some meaning. Sometimes they are inflated by other factors that you might not care about (ie: storage NAND speed), but in this case things like geekbench do show a significant difference (single-core 530 vs 1500) that translates to a massive difference in responsiveness and general usability.

I agree that a phone that gets 37k antutu is perfectly "usable" because that's similar to something like an HTC One M7, but that's not to say there isn't benefit of having a faster phone, especially when it's 3x faster for the same price...

Depends on how cheap with these kinds of brands that pop up all the time, but you can always count on there being some issues with them. Also no official updates 90% of the time and no custom roms 100% of the time.

To lower the price these guys use a variety of tricks that don't show up on specs list such as only including most barebones sensors, interpolating cameras to boost the MP value, shitty low-capacity batteries etc.

Personally I had a THL T6 Pro, an amazing phone for the price at the time, built like a fucking tank, but about a year after I bought it the battery started bloating and thanks to it's sturdy build I only noticed it when it pushed the display out.
