Why the fuck do laptop manufactures make laptops so hard to disassemble?

To reset a screen ribbon cable I had to remove well over 2 dozen screws, the hard drive, the battery, the WIFI adapter, the keyboard, a metal plate, and the plastic casing.

The connection wasn't the problem either so I just wasted my time.

they make money selling laptops
>>
normal people give up if it's too difficult, so they make more money on repairs
>>
>>57878111
Because they are convenient portable computing devices. You want to fix shit get a desktop

In my experience Toshibas are pretty easy to take apart and repair.

Not all companies do it intentionally.

Designing all the hardware of a laptop to fit into smaller and thinner cases with enough durability to withstand everyday laptop use and carry may make it seem otherwise to the layman.

i had to change lcd ribbon and it was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life

i also copped out and nigger rigged it because i didn't want to disassemble it completely, i just rerouted the cable in suboptimal way and had to remove the protector thingy on one of the hinges to make it happen

i literally would have had to completely disassemble it to do it the right way, it's like they put shit in the way on purpose to be dicks about it

There's fuck all space and it's not something that has to be done often or even for most customers. So making it hard to disassemble is fine, only trained techs with specialised tools really need to do it.

It keeps the laptop small and doesn't waste money on making shit easy when it will only rarely be done. The design goals prioritise functionality and aesthetics over maintainability.

i know man, it's very easy to do things like add RAM, change hard drive on my laptop... i'm just venting about my bad luck that the component i was replacing just happened to be the last piece of the puzzle and would have required complete disassembly to do it right. literally any other repair would have been easier

i was able to skip some steps by snipping the lcd cable i replaced, removing a protective layer from the hinge and niggering the new cable through the hinge

also, i will never make the mistake that ended up in me changing the LCD cable again. ordered refurb with shitty 1366 x 768 panel, and upgrading the screen required a 2 way lcd cable. if i had known that i would have to replace the cable to the mobo to upgrade screen i would have never considered this upgrade... but i had already purchased the new screen and felt obligated to tackle it

i buy cheap refurbs for exactly the reason that they are not worth repairing, either money or time spent just isn't worth it when you could get a new one for 200-300 bucks

I only had to remove one screw on my chromebook to get access to everything.

These are only in consumer laptops. Dunno the model but there's one from HP that has over 30 screws (not an exaggeration, literally 30 screws) to take off the keyboard or anything else since it's under the keyboard.

You want a business laptop. Thinkpad T60 and everything after have only 8 screws holding in 90% of the parts. Super recent examples will unfortunately due to trying too hard to be thin use >glue

other business laptops are more or less the same way. Saying good fucking bye to consumer laptops was one of the greatest choices I've ever made. Spend about $150 every 5 years now.

by the way, if you're following a hardware maintenance manual, don't follow it to the letter. For example most of them will tell you that you need to take off all those parts you listed to remove the screen, but you only really have to remove any cables that happen to run up there. They just write that to follow every use case of replacing positively everything.

I made the mistake of buying a laptop from Toshiba, and it comes with a 3rd HDD bay that is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO USE!!!

I would have to snap the keyboard in half if I wanted to; Laptop manufacturers dont want you modifying your shit, they want you to buy more shit!
>>
This is not a problem with Thinkpads
