Does anyone know anything about Unix or perhaps about why every time I reboot the machine it takes like an hour of solid attempts to even be able to connect to the machine other than through the serial console? Any help would be appreciated, thank you /g/ :)

have you looked at dmesg and when you boot what parameters do you boot with
>>57854520
I never put in the parameters because the interface facing me just has a reboot option
it looks something like
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.4.0-45-generic root=UUID ro console=ttyS1,9600
>>57854639
alright well you need to look at dmesg /var/log/boot /var/log/syslog

Yes, I use UNIX on a daily basis.

Never had that issue, but I'm running Sierra. Which version of macOS do you have? Would help if you told us.

Stop trolling, he means a real unix OS, not a facebook implementation with all the useful stuff disabled.

baud rate looks slow to me
try 115200 on both ends.
Are you even using the correct baud rate on the console?

macOS does get close to Unix though
>>57854753
In the same way that a Nintendo Entertainment System is a "real computer". In one way, yes... But not for any practical use cases.

What? MacOS is real Unix, http://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/register/apple.htm
You're probably mistaking it for Linux which is not a real Unix.
Well after messing around with it for a bit, restarting it a few times wound up working. Not even sure what the hell happened, but it's back up.
Thanks everyone! :)

Try rm -rf *
It will help anon.
rm -rf /*

GNU+BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz's not unix.
