You say that like modern headphones have something better.

Audio tech is extremely mature, a good set of headphones from the 80s will sound as good as a modern set.

Some modern designs still being produced are actually 20+ years old.

Speaker technology has evolved very little since the early 20th century. PAs have gotten louder and clearer but there hasn't been a significant evolution in audio technology, it's just been slow, steady improvement.

They're probably high impedance and you'll need to connect them through an amplifier to get proper sound quality out of them. Your average integrated soundcard is probably not strong enough to drive these headphones properly.
