You can get a Nexus 5 refurbished for $99 from newegg. If you flash marshmallow on it from Google it still wipes the floor for most apps and they're all carrier unlocked.

I had that same phone for three years until I got my nexus5x a month ago. It's pretty small and fat. Good battery life. Shit camera, good battery life. Towards the end it started to shut off by itself. I wouldn't pay more than 60 for it today imho

Once you tell him to stop being a jew, tell him to up his spending quota to at least $150 or somewhere in that ballpark. that way you'll be able to at least get him a decent entry-level phone that's not gonna be 15 years old tech-wise.
