The guy who designed it is an industrial designer, so that's no surprise.

Dampened cream alps, I also love the keycaps, they seem to be some of the few good caps you can get for alps-style switches.
>>
Just bought an AEK II that may or may not work on eBay
I plan on harvesting the keycaps, but can I harvest the switches as well? And if so, what board could I put them on? I'd like a 66% one if possible
>>
Is a mechanical keyboard worth having if you never learned touch typing?
>>
>>57826614
will most likely have some form of alps switches you could harvest and put in a custom board

i believe clueboard has alps options and is 66%
>>
>>57826568
I love soldering, where do I get one of these? I've been wanting a mech keyboard anyways so it's like two presents.
>>
>>57826536
It depends on your usage. They are very comfortable; being able to type with both hands at shoulder width is certainly a luxury. Comfort is only increased with grifiti wristrests.

That being said, there are several disadvantages, namely, the inability to comfortably type one-handed. While still possible, it was significantly more difficult for me than on a more standard board.

I'd say that its one of the best for writing, but they do not particularly excel at much else aside from comfort.
>>
>>57826641
depends on whether you like how they feel or not
>>
>>57826643
That looks pretty nice, what case can I put this in? I see it's compatible with the fc600m's but I can't find that anywhere
>>
>>57826660
damn

i don't really type two-handed much, but it looks super comfy and good for gaymin
>>
>>57826641
I'd say so. Regardless, touch typing is an invaluable skill. Websites such as keybr.com are great for learning.
>>
>>57826688
i believe varmilo make a board with the same layout as well, vb660m or something

you should be able to find cnc alu cases for that layout on taobao, know i've seen them there before

>>57826614
yes, you can also harvest the switches. You'll need some desoldering equipment, but you can get a basic desoldering pump for 12 bucks or so.

I think the clueboard PCB supports alps, should also allow for a layout that'd accustom to the AEK II keycaps (non-standard bottom row).
Clueboard also offers cases last I checked.

>>57826654
That's not a kit you're looking at, what's a disassembled AEK II.

Though you can get a DIY keyboard kits all over the place. Aliexpress has some, clueboard.co, and mechanicalkeyboards.com should also have everything you need to build one yourself.

Or just design and build one from scratch. You could even handwire it if you love soldering to that extent.

>>57826741

Also the clueboard website currently doesn't offer cases, maybe I should wait a while to see if they sell them again
>>
>>57826783
Thanks man
That's a bit expensive though, are all cases like that?
>>
>>57826801
The thin nature of it doesn't bug me. It's just pretty ugly and unfinished since it was never supposed to be a fully keypad to begin with. Leopold once made a silver aluminum version of their number pad that I like the look of but they haven't done so in years.
>>
>>57826839
For Aluminium? Yeah.

You can get some fairly cheap plastic cases sometimes, but they're normally only for GH60.

Quite nice. My friends describes as browns done right, though I don't think that I can really compare them to anything I've used so far. They're fairly light, with resistance building up as you press down, with a very distinct type of tactility that I can't really put my finger on. If I had to compare them to something, I'd say that they feel like lighter clears, but that's still far from a valid comparison.

Sure, here's the CAD file for the plate.

Gonna be made out of clear acrylic
Controller will go in the little extension at the top mounted sideways with a right angle mini USB extension taking strain off the controller's one, without needing to fit the controller under the switches I can make the case less tall
Case will be cut out of a block of solid pine that I've got lying around using the plate as a template, using a router to cleanly carve out the interior

Browns done right sounds nice. I've never really enjoyed browns - they feel generic, perhaps too lodged in the middle of the spectrum to be interesting.

I've never used topre before, but I can see why they get so much attention. They are smooth and buttery, requiring very little effort to actuate without being as slippery and light as reds.

What's /mkg/s opinion on logitechs K380 and K780?
I hate and love logitech and I know it's not a mechanical keyswitch. However, it is simply a different type of keyboard. Just due to the fact that the individual keys are round. An actual new thing on the market right now (when I walked into the store there were no round keyboard keys, ever).

Hey guys, AEK II guy from last night here

The clueboard FAQ says "The Clueboard PCB supports a large number of layouts. The specific layouts you can use will depend on your plate. For Cherry MX plates you can use any layout. For Matias/Alps plates you can only use the default layout with a few bottom row options. In the image below the white keys are fixed and can not be changed. The default layout is shown in the top center, and keys of the same color may replace each other." with pic related

Does that mean I can't have my ISO enter if I use Alps switches, or is it just about the bottom row?

as long as your standoffs are long enough it should not have any contact with the wood. Glued on acrylic screws with rubber rings (o-rings) make for good invisible spacers.
>>
>>57831438
Handing off this baby

>>57831454
Chiseled it from a block of wood

>>57833103
>>57833480
Yes, I'm here.

I actually didn't do a whole lot in the means of securing the thing. I printed this support structure to prevent flexing, but the whole plate fits quite snugly into the pocket in the wood, so all I had to do was push it in a bit and now you can even turn the board around without having the plate fall out.

Wood isn't conductive, so you don't have to worry about clearance there that much. You should just make sure that the wires going to the controller or connecting the switches don't short out anywhere. As long as that's not the case, you're good with mangling it in however you like.

Though like the other anon said, I would recommend making stand-offs, it's more elegant and will prevent flexing of the plate.

I'd say that's your best guess. It's what I did when making this thing, though you should make sure that your plate fits the bottom row of your keyboard.

On another note, these here are practically the same as a teensy but a whole lot cheaper

I don't know how the chinks would get botnet software on that chip, it's not connected to the intetnet, and you'll be overwriting the memory anyway.

I haven't used swillkb, but I think it accommodates for the keycap sizes when making the plate from a layout.

I dunno if anyone here can help me but whatever, I have a magicforce 68 keyboard and whenever I touch the metal part of it I can hear a very faint static noise from my headphones (it's very short and barely audible), I fucking tried everything and it doesn't go away, what can be the cause of this? (maybe doesn't even have to do anything with the keyboard itself)
>>
>>57839810
Touch a metal part of your case. Same noise?
>>
>>57839869
Nope, also one time I touched my electric guitar strings with the amp on and touched the keyboard at the same time and I got a shock every time I touched the keyboard

Whenever I stumble on this kind of thread, one simple question always comes to my mind:
Do you actually type with these keyboards or are you too afraid to use them because the friction could wear them?
Are they just for looks?

Of course not. You can't even press down on the keys with most of these, they're just display models.
>>
>>57842110
That's what I was thinking.

All these layouts, they look so... impractical.
>>
Just bought 4 spacebars for a keyboard I don't have.

Genuine question, what does the Whitefox do for you that a TADA68 or RS68 doesn't? The gap between the arrow cluster and the right alt and ctrl keys?
>>
>>57842330
I know that the Whitfox has more programing options then the rs68, but I don't know much about the tada68
>>
>>57842330
The whitefox showed up a long time before the TADA did, not to mention that you can put standard keycaps on it.
>>
>>57842446
>standard keycaps
>1.75u right shift
>>
>>57842479
Whoops, forget what I said.

Now that's retarded, they could've just gone with 1u right side bottom row modifiers if they're already going to have non-standard keys.
>>
>>57842479
>>57842509
I guess it depends on the layout you choose

are your walls made of cardboard? If they are then it really shouldn't matter since the sound of bottoming out is louder then the actuating mechanism. I've got a model m and even the people in the room next door can't hear me. Then again my walls are cement board with plaster on them
>>
>>57842858
>I will not order anything from China
why? China makes some really good budget keyboards like the Tomoko and Magiforce ones
>>
>>57842885
I will have to pay 21% tax to wait for it a month and hope it didn't get mangled on the way. I'll rather but something locally and get it right away for the same money.

My walls are pretty thick but I fear the high pitched sound will really stand out at night.

Something like this is my guess. The controller (teensy in this case) extends past the keys, then you have some bezel thickness due to the layered design of the case.
