I've bought 2 Mi4Cs

Definitely worth it, gets about 62k Antutu on the 2gb ones I've bought, camera is significantly better than redmi 3s and redmi note 3 pro on both sides.

Only downfall of the Mi4C really is that it only gets like 6hrs SoT as opposed to 10-12hrs on the redmis.

Fake tracking numbers are a thing if it's sent by untracked mail but required to be tracked for certain sites.

It's more likely that the updates are just slow, or it didn't actually start moving til the truck was full or (if factory-direct) they waited til they had enough orders to do a production run that included yours.


I did notice that one tracking number I couldn't get to work on ebay or any carrier I put it into actually functioned and was accurate on paypal's purchase history interface though.

Okay, so I know it's been a while since I said I'd be able to say anything, I've been busy and then horribly sick so shit has been real. But now that I'm fairly experienced with it I think I'm ready to answer any questions.

Here's the one out of the way (so far)

emulation:

NES, Game Boy, SNES, Mega Drive give zero issues (haven't tried higan but I will soon)

not seeing a reason why anything around those systems won't work, at least to some degree. I just haven't gotten around to trying PSX or N64 or Dreamcast or anything yet. Honestly if you've used a netbook recently you should know what to expect.

Interesting note is that Gamecube runs really well. I'm using optimized dolphin settings but an unmodded unit (people have already devised cooling mods for the device as well as a BIOS change which optimizes performance further) and I seem to get on average 80% of full speed on games with some going higher. I was even using NTSC, with PAL versions you get about the same thing but better performance since they're only 25 or 50FPS. Here's someone else's vid of Metroid Prime, after they modified things (read comments for more details):

I can tell you that I can play 1v1 Melee matches on less complex stages (Yoshi's Island for example) at a pretty stable 50-60FPS.

As for native PC games I get good (but mixed) results. Just about anything from 10-30 years ago seems fine, as long as it doesn't have compatibility issues with Win10 or with some of the quirks of the hardware itself (for example, the device actually uses a cell phone screen rotated 270 degrees in software instead of a landscape screen, so some games will try to flip to match the hardware and freak out)

Indie games of almost any kind work great, lethal league especially plays wonderfully on it. Flash games are hit or miss, for example inishie dungeon doesn't run that well at all, and for some reason doesn't detect the mouse buttons very well. You could probably fix this with an external mouse but that ceases to be all that 'handheld' imo.

3D is the only major stumbling block, for me (and others, though it appears to vary from unit to unit) more intense 3D games cause the graphics driver to fail. How often it fails and how catastrophic the failure (does it just freeze, does the game crash, etc.) again appears to vary by unit. Last I checked into the matter the manufacturers may have found a problem with the construction on some units, meaning it may be necessary to repair them (or send them back in to be repaired).

Despite that I'm rather optimistic, games with better-optimized engines will of course run great (Lost Planet 2 on low (not lowest) settings gets better FPS than the console versions) and most anything from last decade seems to work well, or well enough at least.

And on the whole 'not games' thing, I can say that the keyboard is quite nice (I used blackberries for 8 years and I feel that it's almost comparable in key press quality, though IMO not as comfortably designed for intense typing), the functionality of the joystick/mouse switch is really superb and I enjoy using the sticks in mouse mode. No problem with the touch screen either, and 720p feels like plenty enough for a screen this size. Battery seems to be decent (I've used it for up to several hours at a time and not had to worry about power), not had trouble running text editors, word processors, web browsers, video/audio streams, TV shows and movies, or the other stuff you expect a computer to do. I haven't yet ordered a mini HDMI adapter or any USB-C stuff so no comments on how those ports fare (as I understand it the USB-C is only meant for charging and only certain things you plug in will actually do anything) but the USB-A slot and microSD slots are fine and dandy. It really is cool just taking an old laptop drive, putting it in an enclosure, filling it with all your TV shows, and then plugging it directly into a pocket device and using it. No conversions, no digging for custom apps or worrying about format, because it's a computer and it just werks. That said, I'm definitely buying 128gb microsd and flash drive soon as the internal storage of 64gb just isn't enough.

Overall I give the device an enthusiastic B+, I really like it even with its quirks, and the level of functionality it offers really does impress. I can only hope it leads to more pocket computers like it in the future.
