Just switch your sources.list to Stretch and do apt update, apt upgrade, and apt dist-upgrade. Stretch isn't even stable yet(that I know of), so I would go for Testing, maybe Sid after you get the hang of things.

I'm overclocking my GTX980 and experiencing crashes even though my temperatures never get anywhere near max. Temperatures top out at around 60-65C, but I keep experiencing crashes every 30-40 minutes in games.

Would I want to up the voltage, or lower core clock Hz? I feel like +75MHz isn't very much to the core clock, so I feel like I should be upping the voltage, but I'm still fairly new to overclocking so I don't want to accidentally give it too much juice.

>>

crashes have nothing to do with temparature, it's just a limit on how far you can go.
if your overclock is getting unstable then yes, you want to start increasing the voltage. this will increase the temparature as well, so watch out for that.

Before replacing all the fans and paste the laptop would get into the 90s and shut down 10 minutes after being turned on.

Now the temps are slightly better, and so far it hasn't shut down due to overheating - although I haven't had it on for more than an hour and I've only used Chrome on it.

You need a network driver that supports putting your card/adapter into promiscuous mode and then you need a packet sniffing program like tcpdump.

If you have access to the wifi AP and can run anything on that, it's a lot easier. Then you just need tcpdump and run it on the WLAN interface.

Recently built a new PC. When I moved my old harddrives over, my Windows 7 drive stopped letting USB devices function when I reach the login screen.
Is this a driver issue between the old install and my new motherboard?
I'm running linux on the primary harddrive. Can I just drop new drivers into the sys32/driver folder and get it working, or is there more to it?
If I have to install Win10, can I quarantine my Linux drive and data drive from it so that telemetry doesn't touch my shit (I only use Windows for a couple of games and naught else) or will Microsoft try to get into it anyway?

Sadly I lost my Win7 install disc ages ago.

I would need to know my product key, wouldn't I?

And no. I had a computer with two harddrives. One had a Windows OS, one had a Linux OS.
I built a new computer. The only old parts I kept were the two solid state drives.
I connected them to the new rig. The Linux works fine. When I run Windows, I am able to use my USB mouse and keyboard in the boot menu and BIOS, but when it reaches the actual login screen, both devices stop functioning. They do not work in any of the safe modes, either.
>>
>>57819228
Windows doesn't like to work if you simply move its drive to a new system without reinstalling. It's configured for the hardware from the old system and when it doesn't find it it's not happy.

Since I can mount the Windows drive under Linux, is it as simple as placing the drivers in the ./driver folder, or is there more shit to do?

I need to login to Windows to run a product key extractor is the thing.

>>57819245
I can unfuck whatever else might be wrong with it so long as I can actually log in to it. All I need right now is to get my USB working so I can interact with it; it clearly is willing to load and display the OS on the new hardware.

Closed. Opened case is better only if you have no case fans at all.

CPU and GPU are not designed to get rid of that hot air for good, just to blow it away from their respective parts. Properly installed case fans though makes your case into somewhat of an air pipe which intakes cool air and vents out hot air.

So proper fan-made air flow in case much faster than natural convection and hot air from your CPU and GPU fans will less likely stick around in the case that way.

That is your client timing out. It's a waste to keep it open if you don't use it for hours. Also, that is not a true "tunnel", if it was your entire connection would port through like vpn or dialup, not just connecting over port 22, I don't think connection like that counts as a tunnel.

Everywhere that I worked that had a true tunnel, if I'm not mistaken the connection is happening at the router level because the entire network would see servers as if they were local without making any changes to their connection.

in my experience, windows 8+ are pretty good for moving between machines as-is
for older versions, sysprep will do
just;
1. run sysprep
2. set it to "generalize" and "shutdown"
3. once it's done and shut down, move the disk to the new machine (don't boot it on the old machine, else you'll need to run sysprep again)

might be a good idea to download (but not install) some drivers for the new hardware beforehand, notably network/wifi ones

note: you may need to reactivate windows afterwards

I dislike you people sometimes. I bet most of the people whining about hard drive failure don't have any sort of backup. Given this, I will remind everyone again that you should ALWAYS have some sort of backup. Even if it's a NASbox running some RAID, have the data from your main drive backed up, have a list of important media on a text file if it's too much for backup, and always be on the lookout when the drives report any errors.
If your CPU gets kill, it's no problem, buy another one. If your storage fails, you can always buy more, but you are definitely fucked.

I blew all the dust from my computer's insides and after hooking everything back up now it won't boot anymore.
The LEDs light up, the fans spin, and then a second later it shuts down, then it starts up again and does the same thing, over and over.
There also seems to be a quick screetch or buzzing coming from the motherboard when it happens, but i can't tell if it's really from the mb since as far as i know it doesn't have one of those speaker thingies. There's a thing called a 'phase led' on it that has 4 lights, all of which light up when the computer attempts to start.

things i already tried:

taking all the RAM out
taking the GPU out
taking the CMOS battery out
taking the power connectors out and back in.

nothing worked.

Hi, I've got a user at my work who's having a trouble with her browser. Of course, she's determined to use Internet Explorer despite the other available options. At first glance the browser looks like it's frozen, yet when you scroll and observe the mouse; you'll notice that scrolling function is working (links will move when you scroll); it's just that the browser doesn't follow. The only way to fix this, is to shut down the process and start over (once it hangs, it will affect all sites).

Now I've disabled the enhanced protected mode and disabled the hardware acceleration. What can possible cause the issue as explained above?

> Wipe /data and /system.
> Install CyanogenMod.

Do this and report back. Preferably download CM and freecyngn afresh to make sure the ZIPs you have aren't simply corrupted. If it still doesn't work then tell us what apk you're trying to install and post error messages/screencaps.

I have a steam library on SSD, and another one on HDD. I want to move a game (~35gb) from the HDD to the SSD.

Is that as simple as moving the folder /steamapps/common/<game> to the same parent directory on the other drive? I googled it and they say to just make another steam library on the SSD, I'll do that if I have to but I'd prefer not to. Is steam smart enough to "see" the new change in existing library folders?

Problem with non-whitebox cases is that they have propriatery shit sometimes making simple things like PSU impossible to change unless you start hacking shit off the case.

Alright, so, I'm in need of a laptop and I want something with an active pen digitizer, since I like to draw and generally do art. I currently have an x220 tablet, but with all the issues I've been having with it, I'm thinking about throwing it on ebay if I can find something better.
(issues: screen pressure spots, brittle and creaky plastics, rubber trim pieces falling off, very inaccurate digitizer, okay performance, chugs in applications like photoshop, 2.5-3.5 hours of battery life on power saver mode, etc)
Anyone know of any good laptops or tablets (better than this at least) with an active digitizer for <$300?
The elitebook 2760p looks seems to be better built, but has most of the same issues, the dell XT3 is supposedly a time bomb before the digitizer dies, and the x230t is the same as what I have, just with a better cpu/graphics.
I don't mind buying used if it's in good shape, I just want something that'll work, and if new, with decent warranties if in case something goes wrong, which is why I ruled out the Cube i7 stylus.

What rpm do you guys run your computer fans at? The default where a bit (alot) loud for my taste so I tuned it down to something like

case fans (based on cpu temp)
35% speed up to 40°C.
40% speed up to 55°C.
50% speed up to 70°C and 60% after that (fan goes to 1600rpm so my curve goes from 550-1000~ rpm I think after 50% speed they get too wooshy for my taste)

on cpu I use
50% up to 40°C
65% up to 65°C
80% up to 70°C and max after that

does this look normal/OK you guys think?
