Plan 9 or, more specifically, its best modern incarnation: 9front (from cat-v)
It packs a shitton of very good ideas that never took off (or are still being integrated nowadays, think /proc).
It's also incredibly lightweight (kernel compiles in 1 minute on a 2006 Centrino) with like 36 syscalls in total but flexible enough to do most things.
