If you don't own a pet and you don't have children, there's no need for a case if you're trying to save money. Just lay the components on a table by your monitor. If you're concerned about dust then put a cardboard box with some holes over the components. You can put the $50 you just saved towards a better GPU.

I have a Cooler Master N400. It comes with two 120mm fans and looks pretty cool. Its cable management capabilities are awful, but that doesn't matter since it doesn't have a side window.

i recently picked up a Define R5 from Fractal Design for $85 with tax on newegg.

I was also looking for "cheap" and simple, since im new to building computers. So i got a case with tons of places to mount fans, radiators, and ssds/hdds. that was also easy to build in and keep wires clean. spent a bit more than i was expecting in the hopes that its a case ill be building in for a while.
