My text editor (Geany) doesn't have a configured syntax highlighting for Groovy. Which language is similar enough to it so I can lie to Geany saying .groovy files are for language X or Y?

Geany doesn't have syntax highlighting for that either

install emacs my man, it has syntax highlighting for every obsolete language.
Just pick something.
They all look alike anyway.
C python, java...
The important part is probably comments as most editors have a macro for inserting comments, so you need to have that to be correct.
You could also make your own by copying one of the existing syntax files and modify what you need.

Java. Groovy's syntax is literally a superset of Java's.

write your own syntax highlighting for geany and submit a pull request. ask #geany on freenode
