Other than that, flash is fucking trash
>>
>>57767711
>Flash
pls no
>>
>>57767711
you've had like five years to find a new job, guess nobody needs experienced flash developers huh?
>>
Problem is when 80% of people dont have PC power to run HTML5. Its not question what browsver you use if your CPU cant handle it.
With Flash you can wach 1080p+ no problem where with HTML5 you can not even full screan if you dont use Chrome and even then it need so mach more internet speed and CPU power just to reproduce something in terms of 480p.
So good luck with this change, people just wont bother looking into sututering low quality videos, it besicly degrade them 15 years in terms of performance becouse some one think it good idea.
>>
>>57768378
relax dude im sure u can go do something like a code bootcamp, I'm sure the skills you've acquired while working at adobe on Flash will translate well into real languages. You'll turn out fine.
>>

>>
>>57768378
He's got a point. These fags need to fix their shit and make HTML5/canvas faster
>>
>all these fags defending Youtubes shitty HTML5 player.

It is downright the worst video player I've ever used.
Flash player works fine.
HTML5 barely fucking works well on tablets at all.
The mobile page for Youtube generally works, but then when you have streaming or certain videos, it refuses to play, so you need to go desktop.
Go desktop, INSANE amounts of lag all down to the shitty video player.
Not only that, half the time you'll have the video player glitch out and reload itself (when it tries to load an ad)

It's just yet another instance of Google Quality Code.
Same shit happened to Gmail, to Maps, even to fucking Search. They are all bloated as fuck with deep-enclosure JavaScript which is the WORST thing you can do with JavaScript because it massively increases the overhead on CPU and RAM.

TOP TIER, WE'RE FINALLY IN THE FUTURE GUYS, FLASH IS DEAD

In b4 LEL TABLET GET GUD
Fuck off, this spec was created for Tablets and Phones in the first place.
>>
>>57768888
>going to the youtube webpage on tablet
Just use newpipe, dumbass
>>
>>57768911
I'm not saying I DO it now. That's not the point.

I'm saying Youtubes site is the absolute worst example of HTML5 video players around.

I even tested it on a netbook just to verify it was indeed the video player and nothing else on the site, like the new comment-templating system, or (at the time) Google+.
100% the video player. It is so laggy it isn't even funny. I have no idea what the fuck they've done to make it so shitty.
I don't even want to read their shit-tier code. The amount of enclosure-abuse is terrible.
>>
>>57768911
Do you realize how SHIT newpipe is? Duplicate results, crashes all the time, slow, fuck dumb that it doesn't remember settings.

Fuck that shit, m8.

>>57768378 is right. and its very apparent on twitch. Flash works much better on twitch compared to their html5 player
>>
>>57769054
In theory, yes.

HTML5 on Youtube is pantsu-on-head retarded.
Their abuse of JavaScript is the reason anything Google has done in the past 10 years is the shittest code around.
Before, fine, but after is all shit.

They've enacted some rule of deep enclosure code either to obfuscate or just because they are fucking retarded
Either lead to the same result: JS engines screaming for their lives.

But hey, "we have super cool turbo charged CPUs with 290 quadrillion cycles per femtosecond, F U T U R E"

Yeah, Twitch as well actually, I forgot.
>>

But then when the site went down for a period, I forgot about it and refound it around the end of 2004 or start 2005, I can't remember exactly.
Linked to /v/ trying to find the source to the "revive Aeris with 99 Tissues" nonsense*. I still never found out.
And, at the time, I had bookmarked the thread and saw it deleted after a period, and got mad, then banned for a week for complaining :^)
I lurked more. Fucking newfags 'r me.

* Linked from the Myspace forums of all places.
The videogaym forums there were pretty much /v/ shitposting even then. We even had 2 mods in control of that forum. We abused those forums so hard.
I figured out how to embed video and sound, as well as change the background picture, opacity of body and everything under the sun.
Setting the entire body transparent with scat background and screamer. Fun times.
I miss those shitty forums.

I have been using youtube-dl/mpv for a long time now. Most of my hardware is crap. So, playing videos on any site is a challenge if I use the site's video player.

I first started using youtube-dl with mplayer. But then YT switched to https which broke mplayer.

Also, there is an addon for FF called "Open With" that lets me highlight a video link and send it to mpv. I'm sure there are other ways to get a video to mpv, but that is the method I use.

Twitch is an absolutely unusable piece of trash if you don't have a stable internet connection 20MB/s or faster. And their HTML5 player somehow made it even worst.

Youtube under Google is a joke tho, what the fuck happened to just letting me load a video on the background to completion? Why the fuck could I do that in 2006 and not in 2016?

I know Flash is a horrible security hazard and is bloated as fuck but in my experience it works best on slow connections and underpowered hardware than HTML5. That's in sites in general, not just Google's.

Your graphics supports Unified Video Decoder 2 so it will easily play MP4 H.264 no problem. The problem is that HTML5 is causing a CPU load that your shitty CPU can't handle. Download the MP4 off youtube and use any media player that supports UVD acceleration i.e. DXVA. I use PotPlayer which supports DXVA and can even parse youtube links for streaming [you want MP4, AVC stream].
>>
>>57782263
thanks!
>>
>>57780623
It drops a few frames when I start playing the video but it's perfectly smooth after that.
>>
>>57782363
I use an older version of mpc-hc that supports dxva under Windows XP (later versions removed support for this for some reason). I can use flashgot to grab the video and play it in mpc-hc if needed. I tried the latest version of potplayer but it won't run, I think it needs sse2.

It's shit, but still runs better than HTML5 video on some older and less performant systems.

probably wouldn't be too difficult to make a patch for that

What the actual fuck. If I'm on Linux, I'm forced to use Chrome now to be able to watch anything in better quality that fucking 360p? What kind of joke is this?

Cofirmed, Palemeeme now confined to 360p only. On Firefox higher quality options available.

Palecucks btfo and on kys watch.

How do I choose a better quality in mpv if mpv has literally 0 (zero) options of any kind once it's running?
>>
>>57783602
you can set your preferences in mpv's config file

here's mine;
ytdl-format=0/(bestvideo[vcodec=vp9][fps>=50]/bestvideo[fps>=50]/bestvideo)[height<=1080][tbr<5000][protocol!=http_dash_segments]+(bestaudio[acodec=opus]/bestaudio[ext=webm]/bestaudio)/best

Last time I tried using Firefox on Linux, it didn't seem to fully support HTML5. I say this because some types of video players wouldn't work on it, but they did work when I was using Firefox on Windows 7 without Flash installed.

yea, i know, but the integration makes some things nicer, such as your example of handing it the webpage url
also, your final example doesn't use a pipe...

i did something different, dillo can't into drag/drop or anything, so i added a keyboard shortcut to my wm that runs;
sh -c 'mpv $(xclip -o)'

aka, it opens the contents of the clipboard with mpv

>>

I didn't know you could do that. But I prefer right-click and selecting from context menu over opening mpv and dragging and dropping.

Plus I sometimes add an extra step where I open a gui to select the quality I want and select if I want to download or stream.

But the drag and drop is still cool.

>>57783704
Don't do that. You're running the risk of potentially letting anyone run arbitrary commands on your computer.
>>
>>57784435
it was just a one-off thing

also,
- nobody else uses my computer
- i lock my computer when i step away from it
- even if i didn't at least one terminal is always open, why go through the trouble of figuring out i have a shortcut that could be hijacked with a specially crafted clipboard, when you can just use the terminal to do the same thing
- nobody else in this house knows how to use linux
>>
>>57784435
>>57785525
upon testing, i can't get it to parse the clipboard contents with what i've used, so perhaps it's safe anyway

Try copying this, and then run your script

>>57785525
It's about what links you could potentially click on the internet. Having the above in your clipboard, and running

sh -c 'mpv $(xclip -o)'

will play the youtube video and run
touch lolpwned
every second after the video starts.

It is easy to overlook the exact content of a link, when e.g., simply right-clicking and selecting "copy link address" or whatever.

To add to my post:

The take-away is that mpv is complex enough to have a command switch, which lets you run arbitrary programs. Therefore you should be very careful of what you run the program with.
>>
>>57786426
oh right, malicious mpv options, not trying to get the shell to run something extra

So can somebody explain to my why watching html5 videos through browser is so goddamn taxing that my computer can barely handle 1440p fullscreen, but using ffplay everything is stellar up to 4k 60fps. 8k 30fps seems to be pushing it for my current computer.

Nevertheless, that's a major fucking difference between browser and ffplay.
