no, like other anon said it's just guidelines and you are free to change it as you wish. for example I went for the arch filesystem hierarchy with /bin /sbin being symlinks to /usr/bin. same for /lib and /lib64.

check the gentoo ebuilds, they have millions of custom patches, portage is bloated as fuck and in the end you have no idea what is really going on. On the other hand with LFS you really start to get an understanding of how it all works.
