I'd suggest Puppy, but my 701SD and 901 used to run fine on Mint using MATE. You're obviously limited by space here but you might consider SD cards a solution to that issue.

Puppy or Slax if you don't want to configure anything.
A Net install of Debian would probably be fine too.
Arch if you wanna configure everything for MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY

Regardless, you'll want to throw the default DWM in the trash and install i3
