How long until RAM Disks become economically viable?
At the moment you can get 128gb DDR4 RAM for a few hundred dollars or 64gb DDR3 for under $200
Out of this you could easily make a 50gb drive for a program you wanted to run very well, something like 20x-30x faster than an SSD
It seems to me that I could be looking at a PC in 2 years with a large hard drive for storage and a small RAM Disk for current programs.

FB DDR2 can be had for well under $1/GB.
$150-200 for 256GB is pretty easy.

You realise it must remain powered?
It already is, retard.

>50gb drive for a program
>RAM Disk
>faster
None of this makes any sense unless you're talking about muh games. If you really did have that much RAM though just run find . -type f | xargs cat > /dev/null on the game's assets before launching it and they'll be cached in memory for when you need it without fucking about with RAM disks.

Then why arent you using it, nerd?
>>57727360
i dont think he does
Why do SSD babies get triggered so easily?
Why not a hybrid drive that runs on the ram memory while periodically making backups on a secondary SSD. At boot the secondary drive could load the necessary files back onto the ram drive

Wow you just explained how OS disk caching and write buffering works except in a really retarded way. Please fuck off back to /v/.
