I want to fiddle around with a webserver and IRC server and SSH server, but I'm a poorfag with only a small SSD can you recommend me a distro for a VM that takes up very little space? Preferrably less than 5-10GB?

Debian debootstrap

I run Ubuntu Server in VM. Four instances along with one Win Server running on one laptop. It's user friendly and doesn't need much resources (unless you want a DE but I don't see why you would). Alternatively you could try Arch, it also has a lot of documentation and some things are more "standard" than on Ubuntu. Or CentOS if it's supposed to be a real server and not just an unstable plaything. Documentation for Red Hat is great as well.
In the end, you never need a lot of resources when running Linux servers, no matter the distro. Read up and pick something that seems right for you.
