I'm trying to install a Gigabyte z170xp-sli into a Fractal Design R5, but the motherboard has only 6 standoff holes that match the ATX standoffs on the case and a lone extra standoff hole on the center right side that doesn't seem to match up with the case's ATX standoffs. Am I supposed to leave that extra standoff on the motherboard unscrewed?

When you say restart router, you mean just turning it on and off again, or do you mean resetting/reflashing it with new firmware?

My sister has a ASUS Transformer Book T100HA. It was ok, and as a student laptop for taking notes or doing basic work in office, it suits her fine. From what I can tell, her experience with it was generally positive. But I don't think it is anywhere near as powerful as a T420.

Let's focus on one thing at a time. It might not hurt to power down your phone, and work through your PC.

If you are 100% certain your PC is clean now, you can potentially try resetting to factory settings on your router one more time and seeing what happens.

Getting into functional programming recently. Seeing a lot of people encouraging currying and only one input per function.

Do I need to worry about this for thread constructors?

I mean in theory the class could have it's values preset, but that clashes with OOP a lot.

For a .net server for example, is it okay to say pass in the server ip address and port number, or would that to be too inelegant?

>>
>>57707512

I would, but I have zero experience with ncmpcpp. I see some config thread from 2009, and it seems they are similar, but are you wanting it to just show a little terminal with the name of the new song and then disappear? I see configs talking about putting the current song title in bold.

The phone is now disconnected from wlan to prevent eventual spreading. Win and Linux are on different SSDs, so no problem with individual resets.

I appreciate your and the other anon's support. THANKS!

On a sidenote: win seems still to be clean.
I'll check back tomorrow just to be sure my router isn't infected, but for now i think that it was the redirect alert shit.

Stupid question: Do we have a site that benchmarks relative performance of the 950 pro versus the upcoming 960 evo and go into detail on which workloads can cause the evo to fill its write cache? From what I can tell the 960 evo beats the 950 pro for the first 13GB until the cache fills and then it turns into a piece of garbage that can be outpaces by last year's budget SSDs.

Am I being stupid for not trusting Samsung about cache sizes or am I being stupid by considering buying last years tech when the new releases are only 2 weeks away?
>>
>>57707555
Yes.
>>
>>57707592

So, does that mean you are going to bed? Or have you had any progress with testing https?
>>
>>57707604

Clarifying: I trust them that the cache size is what they say. I'm just clueless if it's large enough to not get constantly filled in real-world usage. I'm leaning towards the 960 though since it's a little cheaper at each capacity and I'm probably buying the 250/256 or 500/512GB model.
>>
>>57707623
I've tested it successful on win7, after the removal of the infected files.

Android an Linux still are borked, but i'll wait until tomorrow to fix them, just to be (kinda) sure it's not the router itself.
>>

Alright. So are you going to reset the router to factory settings now then?
>>
I recently got a security camera that comes with a DVR and a camera. The DVR has a hard drive and comes with HDMI and VGA ports. I can plug either into one of my computer monitors.

If I want a standalone monitor for the camera for convenience (without having to remove cables from my computer monitor) what exactly should I be looking for? I really don't want to spend a lot of money on it and want something sub- 15 inches. Computer monitors don't seem to go lower than that. What should I be looking for?
>>
>>57707662
Nah, not yet.
If i have to do it, sure, right now i'm positive it spread from Android through the wlan connection. I'm pretty confident the router itself is clean, but i want to make sure by giving it some time.

And use USB to install windows, just use rufus to make the USB bootable.

Yeah unfortunately, given the fact that this is a laptop, when it comes to upgrading, apart from maybe swapping out the disk or adding additional RAM, you are stuck. You will have to buy a new laptop with new specs whenever you feel like your current one isn't up to the task. Though I can guarantee you that the first thing that will bottleneck you won't be the RAM speed. It will be your processing power.

I re-mounted the installation image and went to work, but during this I was unable to get past the network configuration step, the error I kept getting repeatedly was "Failure of Key exchange and association", and thus am unable to continue my installation. There are a few not marketed as a pi monitor, if you browse through Amazon and choose the under 16 inches filter for monitors, but it seems that the demand for these size monitors come from the pi. From the looks though, they are just monitors regardless, so it being marketed as a pi monitor shouldn't have an impact on connecting it to your HDMI setup.

For the record: I've owned an internal Seagate, an internal HGST, and several external WDs. The latter all still work great, my HGST has made worrying grinding noises not long after installation, and my Seagate lasted me about 4-5 years before slowing down and dying.

Because of all this I've been looking at WD internals, but if Segate has improved a lot in recent years they might be better to look into.

It's $40. I've already spent money on several expenses lately and don't have a lot to budget out considering future expenses. I don't want to be left with scraps in my wallet just to get software that doesn't even have solid compatibility with software I already own.

In addition, as far as I am aware, you are only allotted two downloads of it, and I don't want to have issues with usage of it in the future if I need to reinstall it on a fresh OS install, as I had to do recently. I might be incorrect in regards to the "only two downloads" deal, though.

Is it a good deal? Or do I get a T530 and add an SSD to it?

Or a W700 with a Core2Duo (8GB RAM) but 500GB HDD/120GB SSD and a FullHD display?

All used of course. I need something pretty much only for Illustrator and Photoshop. Portability not important.

Programming is very lucrative, as much as these /g/tards will tell you otherwise, best thing to do is to start learning something like Python or C, then as soon as you can start contributing to open source projects, this goes a long way, but it's a lot of work for no immediate pay off.
If you just like IT and want to plug in people's Thinkpads and install Adobe reader then it's a little more competitive, but if you go to one of the those 2 year programs you should be fine.

Help /g/. I need a laptop for general use (usually on my lap in bed). I'm currently moving around a fair bit due to my job so a desktop isn't practical for me atm. Looking to do very light gaming (mount and blade, emulated roms, medieval total war) and watch movies/youtube etc on a 1080p screen (ideally). I want to run windows on an ssd as well.

At the moment i've found these laptops. Are any of these good choices? I'm aware that I could easily spend loads of money but I really would rather not. 500 pounds seems to about right.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-510s-14-laptop-red-10146134-pdt.html
Ideapad 510s 549 bongs
+SSD (no option for second drive though)
+small 14'
+i5 + 8 gigs Ram
-No dedicated graphics
-can replace SSD but can't put two drives in.

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-510-15-6-laptop-black-10146352-pdt.html
ideapad 510 - 429 bongs
+i5 + 8 gigs Ram
+decent screen
+Nvidia 940
+cheapest
+can replace the cd drive with a caddy and have an SSD
-big (15") and thick
-ugly plastic thing

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HIWOOWM/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2C35CQ9M81Q1C&coliid=IZIVONKR57WYR&me=
ASUS K501UQ - 699 bongs
+i7 + 12 gigs Ram
+average screen
+Nvidia 950
+500 GB SSD
+thin and light

-big (15")
-most expensive by far. Perhaps overkill for my needs.

What do you think?

>>
why is the cost to performance ratio SO fucked in laptops and netboooks
>>
>>57717481
Because you're not buying just FLOPS, you're also buying build quality, which has a huge impact on cost.

>typed on a 15" rMBP
>>
>>57717779
so whats a good way of calculating performance per dollar, or value, in mobile devices ?

So I found an IBM floppy reader buried under a pile of other junk in my closet, which is pretty cool as I have a bunch of floppies stashed somewhere with no knowledge what's on them. But I've never seen a connector of this kind. Can anyone help me identify it so I can buy an adequate whateverthisis-to-usb convertor?

Can someone explain to me how in the freaking hell I get 3.1MiB/s when downloading torrent shit and still get around 800 KiB/s when transferring files between computers in my LAN? They are both on connected via WIFI, and yes I looked things up and everything leads to WIFI getting noise, the distance being too far, or walls in between messing things up, but still this shit doesn't make sense. I get 3MiB/s downloading, shouldn't I get 800KiB/s if any of these were the reasons for my LAN speed?
>>
>>57718379
doubt this claim
though possible, highly unlikely as one would even encounter the term Arch linux before ubuntu, fedora, mint, debian, opensuse,...

I'm going to change my VGA LCD monitor for and HDMI one soon since it got a thick pillar of splodges and discolored pixels.

I feel like the quality in this one was already pretty crisp at 1080p. What kind of changes can I expect when switching to HDMI?
I know it's probably a retarded question, pls no bully.

I still want to know what the hell is that port called. Someone told me it's some kind of IBM's own port or something and that some of their old IBM laptops did in fact have that port. Yet nobody ever told me its name or code or anything else I could look it up by.
>>
>>57718753
the connector is called B1-66ER male for all the good it does to you
but you can buy usb floppy if you really want
>>
>>57717353
Pls respond
>>
>>57718741
Unless your VGA connection was suboptimal (say, you were using a 20-foot-long VGA cable) it should look the same. The advantage of modern digital monitor standards is greater resistance to analog degradation and the ability to reach higher bandwidths - this latter thing being mostly noticed over the 1080p level. It also saves money on ADC hardware.

>>57718687
if the torrenting computer has a strong radio and good signal to the base station, but the other machine doesn't, you can see problems like this.

>>57717183
Go to Ikea and buy a Markus.

>>57717133
DVI can carry analog signals, if the video card provides them, this is how DVI-to-VGA adapters work. But I very much doubt you'll find a monitor with a DVI plug on it.

CRTs in general are getting very thin on the ground since they've been out of production so long.

>>57717029
check if those files already exist, if you launched it with sudo it might have created them, and created them under the user it was running at (root). So you might have config files owned by (and only readable by) root, and when you run it as yourself it can't read them.
>>
>>57718778
Thanks but oddly enough I can't seem to find it on Google except some obscure Matrix reference.

I know I can buy a new floppy reader but I believe the one I have is fully functional so it'd feel like a money waste to throw it out and buy a new thing.

On Windows 7, how I do resize the start menu?

thinkpads are good choice that I would recommend, but not expensive or used

but check Thinkpad E560
its thinkpad high quality keyboard, great mousepad, front firing speakers, intel wifi, easily added ram or replaced SSD, far better build quality than ideapads, basic asuses and acers..

quick check on subjects amazon you could get one for around 500 with fullHD and i7
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-ThinkPad-2-5GHz-i7-6500U-1080pixels/dp/B01D4UC3N4/

drawbacks are not discrete GPUs, and that E570 is already announced, but not available

heres review of its pervious generation, 14" version

anyway, if you want gaming, then check also dell inspiron 5000 series, though I am not a fan of gaming notebooks

Great thanks for the suggestion. I had an old second hand thinkpad a while ago and really the hinge was completely busted by then. Also the styling of the old models (like the t420) are just rediculously chunky. Call me a normie but I can't lug those things around. Those reasons are why I'm not thinking about second hand thinkpads.

I'll look into the 560. Annoyingly british amazon is infested with unrated sellers selling suspiciously cheap devices. I'll have to look a bit more.

I thought this was the problem, but unfortunately it wasn't. I'm getting the same torrenting speed on both computers.
I just did a lan speed test and pic related is the result. I'm getting more upload speed than download. I sincerely don't know what's going on.
