Which graphics cards hole up very well in 2016? 7850 7870 GHz/XT

still have a 7870 xt at 1200 OC (975 stock). And at 1080p it's showing her age on some of the new unoptimized triple AAA games like the new forza and deus ex. But i'm playing W3 and Das 3 right now and it's performing pretty well.

W3 1080p high without hairworks, medium shadows and foliage distance and it runs at 55-70fps and DAS 3 at high without motion blur and medium texture quality since 2gb is a problem in this game. I get at 900p constant 60fps and at 1080p 55-60fps (i choose 900p over 1080p on this one because the frametime on das3 are all over the place if it doesn't run at constant 60 for some reason maybe it is because the 2gb are too limiting?)

But if you are getting one now i wouldn't recommend it. This thing consumes electricity like a starved whore and it gets pretty hot and as far as i know mine is a rare one for overclocking that well since the 7870 xt is basically a 7950 chip that couldn't reach AMD standards to be a 7950. And I've heard that most don't overclock well at all. And 2gb are pretty tight for 1080p and it's only going to get worse.

If you are looking in the second hand market look for a r9 290 4gb or a 280 3gb as a bare minimum

yeah these are some solid cards even today. But I was looking for a card around ~50€ and 280/290 are usually a little more expensive.

I have a reference 660 Ti as my only GPU, have been using it for ages and it has yet to fail me. It obviously can't handle new games at incredibly high settings, but at 1080p with my horrible FX 4100 @ 4.3 Gh/Z it held up amazingly well most of the stuff I've thrown at it, working at a full 60 FPS w/ highest settings on Saints Row 4 and Elder Scrolls Online with the render distance down (Because of CPU).

I wouldn't exactly reccomend it, however. I believe there is better out there at the moment for around the same price, and it is getting very old now.

my main problem is games themselves have been sucking so I really dont feel like upgrading much, also 1440p/4K being too expensive still IMHO...

This is my main problem as well. Games just don't grab me these days, I'm mostly playing modded STALKER

But the new games I do pick up like Dishonored 2 are optimized like dogshit, so it might be worth me buying a new card, y'know?

I have a 7850 2gb since launch 2012. It's aged well and frankly the southern Island chipset was pretty based. Come boxing day I'm finally going to retire her. It plays a lot of games at max with modern ones on medium. I could probably stretch it out for another year, two max until it is completely deprecated.
