Seiko 5 famalam, plenty of various models. Vostok Amphibia is another option, along with Orients sub 100$ lineup.

Buy new unless you've properly researched. And whatever you do don't order from India.

So my dad bought me a waterproof/shockproof watch that was $30 and worked fine then I realized it was uncomfortable to wear a watch around and that I carry something that tells the time and date on it pretty much 24/7, sometimes 2 of those things and even if I didn't there are clocks pretty much everywhere or at least another person who had the time so I threw the watch in a drawer and never touched it again so I guess my question is how fucking retarded is someone who wears a watch today, let alone the people who spend significant amounts of money on them just to look like a god damn faggot?

Is that true?
>>
>>57669764
Really tempted to get one. The size, the dial all look ideal to me.
>>
>>57670157

the construction of the clasp is not super impressive because it's just the standard friction-fit type where you have a little friction-fit latch that closes back the other way. but the whole thing including the clasp is tegimented.

honestly the only complaint i have about the bracelet is not the clasp, but that the tolerances are too loose for a watch that costs $2000. the links are only just barely tighter than my stainless F-91 bracelet.

the removable links are fitted with screws. it comes with a tool that fits perfectly into the screw heads. the manual suggests using blue loctite and i had absolutely no problems sizing the bracelet using the included tool and blue loctite like the manual said.

No, it actually depends on wrist size. Now, if you're a fat fuck with 9-inch wrists, then go ahead and get a dinner plate. But if you're typical and have a 7.25-inch wrist or smaller, the max is 42 mm.

If you want minimalism then have a look at Nomos watches, they are likely the best in that style. If that is beyond your budget then check out Rodina R005. If you are on a tight budget then see if there are some clean looking Seiko 5's.

If you want to buy something that lasts and keeps the value.

For the most part they're the best you're going to get for the price.
They are probably the best Asian "homage" brand, though they do have a few original designs.
They fucked up the kerning on a run of a Sub-C homage, which earned them meme status - but the band and clasp on the same watch was REALLY well made and finished, way above SARB level.

>>
>>57681441
As far as dogshit goes it's unpretentious and pleasant, and has more cachet and elegance than your average Timex or no-name chink garbage.

Honestly I would either get a Casio if you just want functionality, or a Seiko if you want something more elegant and of more horological value while still being affordable.
>>
Deep Blue bros, did your watches ship yet?
They shipped mine an hour ago.
What are the odds I get mine in today since I live in brooklyn?
>>
>>57682664
I agree.
At the sub $50 range (or if you just want a beater or even a cheap tank style dress watch) Casio's MTP line can't be beat.
There's also the DW5600 if you want digital, and the MDV06 if you want a proper diver with a 120-click bezel.
Above that you can't do better than a Seiko 5.
I wouldn't buy anything in the ~$200 range, just save up a bit more for a turtle.

I would say the best deal in watches right now though is the Deep Blue nato diver w/ the black friday code.
You get a watch that's cheaper than the skx, yet better in every single way. That's probably the best you can do for $150 in watches right now.

Seiko Monster and Citizen NY0040 are two examples that say differently. Plenty of other options in the 50~200$, some vintage some new.

Though i can't argue the Turtle is a great purchase, the SKX is still widely available at 180$~

The NY0040 is a great watch but the movement is pretty shit, really for not much more you can just get a turtle which is better in basically every way.

Care to back that claim up?

The NY0040 is powered by the robust 8203A movement, it's a movement series that was designed and built to last and is known to be as long living as a 7XXX's series Seiko movement. You can easily find 20 year old examples of the movement still kicking, along with poo-in-the loo'd ones that still survive.

And unlike the regular 7S26 movement, it handwinds. Though it lacks bi-directional winding.

I won't argue that Seiko knocked it out the park with the Neo-Turtle, but the NY0040 is a splendid watch on it's own.

>You'd be right about the monster a couple months ago but they completely disappeared and if you do find one it's a scalper that wants like 300 bucks.

They pop up from time to time and sell for the 200$ range (SRP307&311), the 313 is still available for decent prices.

Seiko 5 is a good way to go.
I'm guessing this is your first watch? The MDV106 will give you 90% of a proper dive watch experience (minus the mechanical movement) for only $40.
I would get that and a few straps to try out.
>>57683212
Yeah I went with that since it was the cheapest option. What color did you go with? I went with pepsi
>>57683265
Zenitar is the best on ebay. Pony up a little more for an amphibia though, you won't regret it. Also remember to get a strap, the bracelet is garbage.
>>57683271
I meant in relation to the 4R movement in the turtle.
I still think the 7s26 is better in terms of accuracy, and bi-directional winding is almost better than hand-winding.
And again, you can get a much better watch for not much more.
>>57683322
It's hard to capture a cream dial on camera generally. It's much lighter than a post-it.

The 4R36 is, very roughly said, is a 7S26 with handwinding and hacking. Overall the accuracy specs for the Citizen/Miyota 82XX movement series is more or less equal to the 7S line.

The uni-directional automatic winding on Citizen's movement works fine in practice.

I can't argue that the Turtle is a great watch, but there's no need to hate on the NY0040.

you "almost" made me believe your bullshit

Not hating, just saying you can bump up to a better watch for not much more.
>>57683493
I've owned a few uni-directional winders and they really do suck if you're not constantly moving your arm.
Handwinding isn't very useful on a diver, especially if you don't want to wear out the threading and seals on the crown. I'd much rather have my watch charge up with a few shakes over constantly screwing and unscrewing to make sure it's winded fully.
>>
>>57683159
>>57683363

i have g shock, and now i want more elegant watch. 44mm too big for me.
>>
>>57683542
>Handwinding isn't very useful on a diver, especially if you don't want to wear out the threading and seals on the crown.

Again, bullshit. Divers need to wind up their watches before immersion to make sure their watches won't run out of charge while being in the depths, where they rely on their watches.

>>57683545
>44mm too big for me.
It's like this thread is full of smurfs
Go with a Seiko 5 then
>>
>>57683625
Or they can shake the watch for a few seconds and not risk fucking their seal up or leaving the crown unscrewed.
Also divers in 2016 don't rely on dive watches, fuck off; I'm talking about day to day use

That's true, but if you're gonna use that argument, we could extrapolate that to everyone. No one really relies on a mechanical watch in 2016 with the more advanced technology available.
And fuck off:
>Handwinding isn't very useful on a diver

You started saying bullshit about the usefulness of handwinding on a diver when you also think that diver watches aren't useful nowadays.

Yes well done, it was in response to a guy who said it looks green when in fact it's more of a very light yellow, my phone camera just can't seem to comprehend the colour, it's more like this

i received the breitling catalog in two days, sinn in ~4, breguet in a week. that's not too bad.

I tried getting a Sinn catalog from watchbuys and they linked me to a pdf ;.;
>>57683798
Unless you plan on replacing your seals every other year handwinding everyday isn't a smart idea. Bi directional winding on the other hand will wind up your watch completely in no time, and thats without ruining your seals.
>>

maybe you should try from sinn instead.

+1 for Seamaster.

>>57685821
I don't care for it. The classic no-date black dial Speedmaster is about as perfect looking as you can get, so there's no reason to stray from it.

And that Tag is as hideous as the last time I saw it. Are you that guy with the motorcycle who lives in the middle of nowhere?
>>
>>57686506
I don't live in the middle of nowhere m8. But yeah, that's me!
>>

>>
How's the Seiko SNK563-J for a first mechanical watch?
>>
>>57686673
Good to see you again. I hate your watch.

But I'd still get that Speedmaster if it will replace the Tag. You can actually get some use of the chronograph by timing how long it takes for Ninefag to come along and shit on its movement.

The SARB line's steel bands aren't any better.
Stamped clamps, hollow end links, etc.

Mine wasn't.
They may have changed in the past three years, but never again will I spend more than $100 for a watch with a stamped clasp.
