Get a VPN. They have no legal obligation to log anything and even if everything that goes through the VPN is logged it still won't be directly linked to you unless they put a lot of effort into doing it.

This is not legal advice for you. You'd have to be nuts to get legal advice from 4chan. But I have received some advice which I'll pass on.

Consider getting a VPN, which doesn't log, owned and operated out of another jurisdiction, and putting all your traffic through that. All your ISP have then is traffic amounts and timing - which can still occasionally be significant but is much less useful than they'd be used to.

Even getting your own server would be fine for that - technically they could order you to log yourself, but they won't because that would be patently silly (if they did that you'd just stop using it, and use someone else's). In actual fact, they're planning to issue the orders on the major transit ISPs in the UK, rather than target the little guys, and install taps for full-take feeds wherever they can get them.

You may in any case want a VPN for the upcoming Theresa May/Claire Perry porn ban orders, and it will help to circumvent other censorship like piracy blocks (which the High Court only allowed because the censorship tech was already in place in some major ISPs to block the IWF blocklist of child porn, so why not extend it - classic slippery-slope).

For anything that's seriously important, use Tor. Consider using Tor for things that aren't important too, but read up on what it can and can't do.

Note, in particular, DO NOT host a Tor relay, exit node, or any other server that anyone else uses in the UK, or run one from the jurisdiction of the UK. You're particularly going to want to avoid anything relating to chat or social media too.

The Investigatory Powers Act as enacted does NOT (on the face of the bill: this is untested law, but was specifically discussed in the Select Committee with reference to open source software like Tor and Signal) allow the Government to compel anyone to backdoor software, if they do not also own or operate a server.
