Sony MDR V6, Senn HD-280, Grado SR-80, Foster T50rp. I find myself always going back to the V6.

Basically, I want V6s but better. My biggest gripe is the shallow soundstage.
For my money, am I better off getting a USB DAC/Amp to get more out of the V6, or are there any good contenders for like-the-V6-but-better?

tfw you wanna buy the HE-400is while they're on sale but you just bought Fidelio X2s and maybe want to get in on the HD6XX too if they reopen that

I like the X2's soundstage and bass but I find the treble unpleasantly harsh...

too expensive for me right now.
Since i cant really afford a great amp/dac for the HE400i, should i go with the alternative and buy the senn hd598?
Just wait until better headphones go on sale again like this?
I mean im coming from $20 IEMs and a logitech G930...

Looking for some commuter iems with a bit of isolation that will be great for hiphop, indie, and rock. A friend recommended trinity atlas deltas, would these be good for $86? Their only downside is that they pushed their shipping back to late December.

Thanks anon, I'll give Superlux a try. When I do buy $20+ headphones, I usually stick to Sony, but I wanted to check out the 7.1 meme. If it's really just virtual effects, it's not worth a look.

aw man, i only ordered one and it still says "not yet shipped"

>>
>>57627605

Yeah, the seller probably meant to enter $370, I was looking at some other AKG headphones and saw the price in related items and bought it instantly. Pretty sure by the time the picture uploaded here it was already sold out since there was only 6 when I bought my 4.
>>
>>57627261
Nothing special exactly, they just sound really good and are pretty cheap for the sound you're getting. They sound like m40s but have a bit better bass. It's a new company and I got them for about 60 bucks if you use the code STATUS20 on their website for 20℅ off. Z review guy did a vid on them so I checked them out and I'm not disappointed. It's a pretty neutral response with good bass and not painful highs.
>>
>>57627627
it said they're restocking on the 25th I think

>>57627652

The seller is obviously going to cancel the orders and fix the price before then. The seller can cancel any order right up until it ships I believe.

>>
>>57627731

>>
>>57627763

That was another anon, but he's right, only reason I got it was because it was Fulfilled by Amazon which means the seller just ships all their stock to Amazon warehouses and Amazon automatically sends it out for them, it's probably how I'll actually be reselling them as individually selling them on eBay would be like at least $20 shipping each.
>>
>>57627909
mine is fulfilled by Amazon also
>>
>>57627965

yes, but it's on backorder, which means the seller is going to have to send more stock, and he'll notice that he listed them for $37.00 instead of $370.00, and he'll cancel the backorder orders.

Can anyone recommend any sub 500 USD IEM's with a relatively flat response and decent low-end extension? I'm using for casual listening as well as mixing / mastering.

I had the UE Triple Fi Pro 10's. I'm looking into the Westone W4R's or the UE 900's.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Good/better comfort, better isolation, bettur sound
>>
>>57624936
No, go with the 400i
They're efficient anyway. Barely any harder to drive than 598's

Get a cheap amp/DAC combo like a SMSL M3/Fiio E10k/Micca Origen

all good options, and less than $100 USD

if not you can pick up a DIY o2 for 50 USD and use your onboard DAC, and save up for something more decent.
>>
>>57632221
>Good/better comfort
Subjective, I prefer small form factor universal fit in-ears over acrylic molds in my ear. Inverse fit in-ears such as Shures with their generally small external body and olive tips are very comfortable and fit most people. I personally like canalphones too but those are really a hit or miss, some can't stand them.
>better isolation
Best isolation is provided by canalphones like Etymotics which are universal fit and thanks to the hollow acrylic mold, which is usually the material CIEMs are made out of, their isolation isn't necessarily too good even compared to better isolating universal fits(like Shures). Deeper fit, solid construction and different plastics help but not all CIEMs offer this.
>bettur sound
Very subjective. CIEMs are all over the place, most of them are just blind purchases as measurements are rare and you can't test them out. Neutrality is not what they offer.
>>
>>57626397
https://www.amazon.com/a/dp/B0093PVTPS

Better in every way.
>>
>>57630088
Dropping a screw in the driver wouldn't even hurt the diaphragm unless it goes pointy bit first

>>57630909
X2 is the best headphone out of them followed by 990's
You'd be better off getting something more neutral though.

Ok, I didn't trim but stretched the fuck out of them. I tried force the plastic ring and it broke at one point (just the outer circle and it fit well in the end) then I just stretched each pad for like 5 min with my fingers under the skin with moderate force. Nearly tore the skin a little but only superficial damage. Got both ring on and they fit its very comfy now. I'd def get the metal rings if i'd do this again, the plastic rings are too flexible and fragile.

Is it worth getting a DAC for Fidelio X2s?

Right now I have them plugged into an old Xonar DS.

If so would a Fiio E10k do or would I have to get something better.

Then its not worth it unless its play money. The X2s are one of the best sounding headphones imo so they do deserve an cheap dac/amp at least.

I can very clearly see a difference between plugging the X2's into my phone(6s plus) and my computer.

It sounds much better on my computer.

Holiday season is upon us, and nice headphones would make a good present. In my case, for my teenage niece. Instead of just some über-highend HiFi headphones, I'm thinking something more stylish, and hopefully reasonably rugged as I know they won't be used just sitting quietly on a computer. Of course having a nice sound would be great too.

For me my 15yo sennheisers have served me well but they are about the complete opposite on what I'd give out as a present. So I'm bit lost on the market
>>
>>57634249

DACs are not for just one headphone, is more like extra sound signature which is cleaner, is worth if you have a lot of headphones (fun ones, neutral ones, for gaming) and want to see tv with speakers, or gaming on a console and you want cleaner sound.
>>
>>57634149
Don't. Seriously, don't. Get 558's and a modmic.
Sound better, and cheaper.

Sennheiser headsets are all worse than their 'Hi-Fi' tier headphones.
>>
>>57633590
So what's the scam here? Who taught you anything else and based on what? You can see the similarity in the frequency response already. The HDVD 800, despite costing an arm, isn't that nice of an amplifier, especially not for the HD 518. It has an output impedance of 50 Ohms. Premium build and brand appeal is what sells it.

>>57633631
No, they do what advertised... mostly.

You have a decently powerful headphone amplifier in your phone, just like I do. Not all phones or outputs are made equal and sometimes there are other things wrong thatn just mere volume.

What do you think about RHA T20i?
>>
>>57634510
People have the weirdest conceptions about audio. I think it has mostly to do with the lack of understanding of rather fundamental aspects of sound and human hearing as well as very limited first hand experience with different sounding gear. We simultaneously get people here who believe their DA-converter "upgrade" made soundstage better and people who think headphones past some arbitrary price point are "placebo", both would be equally clueless. It's like a few are actually interested in understanding the subject but desperate to voice their uneducated opinion which really just ends up confusing other, less knowledgeable people giving them wrong ideas.

And at the same time I don't get how some people are so content in getting an answer(right or wrong), forming an opinion, and then continuing to talk about it, if you know you truly don't know what you are on about. Maybe many just think they know or have huge trouble source checking which is also something I really don't get.

>>57634723
I have heard loudspeakers from all of the brands you mentioned but that doesn't make your post anything more than a blanket statement. You can't possibly make that generalization just from hearing a few pairs of loudspeakers in a store.

Can be and is in some aspects. HD 600 has a little more linear and extended response as well as lower distortion. If you prefer comfort then that and I personally like the clamp of the HD 6xx which makes them stay on my head in every position. Some people find the clamping force really uncomfortable so you really need to test if yourself.

Its irrelevant, some need a little power and some 50ohms are super ineficient they need an amp, you better look for the headphone first and see if youll need an amp, anyway usually more than 100ohms needs and amp, you ll be fine with 60 or less most of the time

I have no idea what you are trying to convey with these but generalizing loudspeaker brands with as varied product lineup as Genelec, KEF and Klipsch is just plain dumb. There are very large differences in sound between different models of different brands. There's no generalization to make. Some might sound alike and some won't be anything close to each other. Assuming you were listening to the loudspeakers on-axis, without any kind of room response correction and in the same room, it's no wonder if they sounded alike if the loudspeakers were at least somewhat competently designed.

Hearing the difference is a learned trait more than anything, vague descriptions of the sound like "low and clear" or "natural" really don't mean much. And to call some brands offering's "scams" because of the similarity to a cheaper model during your limited listening session is simply ridiculous.
>>
>>57638820
No. Treble peaks are about equal on k712 and hd650. Difference is the k712 extends from 2-5, and on the hd650 it really only peaks at around 3khz. If you like the hd600 and found the treble particularly good because of how relaxed it is, get the hd650. If you like beyerdynamics or audio technicas more aggressive peaks get the akg.
>>
>>57638868
That autist can't even meme properly. Why are you even responding?
>>
>>57636923
You were right, they don't even offer a better sample rate. Still, driving HD600 on iPhone alone is not anywhere comfortable when you need to crank volume up all the way and with my entrance HD600 respond noticeably faster that with stock 6S and just sound cleaner.

I did. That non rubber analog stick, that incredibly shitty d-pad, those small buttons put in most uncomfortable place and mediocre shoulder buttons.

I know you are accustomed to some trash judging by your pic, but some people do have taste.

She likes clarity and being able to hear the different instruments clearly. I'd like to get her something with a slight bass boost though, maybe a slight v shape

I'm pretty sure the best shes ever used was some Soundmagic e10 iem's I gave her which she loves. My most likely choice so far is this

good choice?

Why do expensive high end headphones have such a strong emphasize on treble and a rolled off bass? I don't get it, the sibilance can be horrendous. They look more like tools to produce good music than headphones to generally listen to all kinds of music regardless of the production being good or terrible

I dunno. When I turn up the volume, I hear unpleasant sibilance on a lot of tracks with female singers on the "s," basically. It's never been an issue for me with any other headphone.

No.

Yes.

Yes.

Should you get it if you don't care?

m20x but the m30x has better sound overall, are you going to use them on the go? if not then consider the HD 518 are semi open but they don´t leak sound
>>
>>57641689
on the go for my commute to school but mostly at home so m30x with an equalizer for more bass?
>>
>>57641785

yes, have you tried bass heavy headphones? they usually fuck the bass IMHO, but don´t believe me, you can EQ with the phone player app, or you can use APO/EQ on pc, you can also change the pads later to enhance the sealing and get better lows, if you like bass heavy HP go for the m20x with new pads
>>
>>57641831
can i send u a reference track so you can decide which HP would be better for it?
