If I want to build a pc now, should I just stay with grdd5x?

HBM exists to solve a problem that we are only now running into. Namely the limitations of GDDR5 in regards to bandwidth and associated power draw. GDDR5X is just a stopgap that Nvidia used because they backed HMC and JEDEC chose HBM instead.

HBM will be out in the next year or two, if you really just want a placeholder until it's mainstream, buy an rx 470 or gtx 1060 3GB.
