Is it normal for IPS screens to get hot?
Just turned my pc off and the monitor is alarmingly hot to the touch, it's been on for a couple of hours.

LCD screens have fluorescent tubes in them. Even though fluorescent tubes don't get burning hot like incandescent light bulbs, they still get warm.

It felt (just a guess) something like 20-30 degrees over ambient.
It's hot as balls here in Sydney though so that's not exactly helping...

Enjoy your spider bites.
If it's a CCFL backlit IPS screen yes.
They average like 40-50c and tend to be noisy as shit too if they're CCFL backlit.

I mean all CCFL backlit monitors get somewhat warm but CCFL IPS monitors are hot as shit.

It's one of those eBay Korean ips ones.
Yamakazi, 30 inch 1600p.
How can I tell which it is?

Check the back of your monitor I assume there's a sticker with all the info regarding the model
Google the model
Check what's inside
(a quick google fo yamakazi 30" 1600p comes up with it's ccfl backlit though so I would expect it to be and expect it to be very hot since IPS CCFL so it's normal)

I assume he means the back/top.
Some CCFL IPS get so hot you can physically feel it just sat in front I have a Dell IPS like that.
They heat your room up like a cunt too.
Have you really never felt the back/top of your monitor to make sure it's not overly hot at some point in your life?
