Redpill me on Displayport
is it better than both DVI and HDMI? pros? cons?
>>57592252
The D in HDMI stands for DRM.
>Redpill me on Displayport
It radiates estrogen when you plug it in
>>57592355
Why am I not turning into a qt girl, then?
>>57592252
dvi is near deprecation

tfw not a trap
>>57592252
Vastly superior in terms of bandwidth, and so resolution and frame rate
displayport is the one true god! DP 1.4 can run 8k @ 60hz nothing else even comes close.
>>57592252
i have display port on my laptop
>>57592439
good to know, anon
>>57592439
Top kek
60hz with display port or 144hz with hdmi?
>>57592439
Oh you. That'll sure show'em.
D-Sub (VGA) master race
>>57592439
Congratulations!
>>57592252
It is better than both and by a wide margin. Some other lesser known things for people that have not worked with these cables:
>can be using in a Thunderbolt 2.0 port (mini DisplayPort) if you are a Mac fag
>has hooks on the ends so it will not come unplugged like HDMI shit
>can be chained to multiple displays so one output can drive many screens
Works great if you have compatible screens, and if not, DP to whatever converters are cheap on Amazon.
waited for the Club3D displayport to hdmi 2 adapter.
well worth the wait, works amazingly well.
i don't know shit else about display port aside from thank god i can push 4k60hz on 4k tv's with this glorious active adapter.
>>57592252
Displayport is the best in terms of bandwith an ability to display 144hz (which dual link DVI is also able to do).
BUT
BUT
Since displayport is an open tech, which HDMI and DVI aren't. Almost EVERY single DP cable out there is absolute shit. You have to get one that is Vesa compliant.
I got some chink DP cable from fry's and it had voltage on the 20th pin sending current to my graphics card. Caused my PC to not wake from sleep or cold boot and likely other issues.

>redpill
lol i love the matrix XD
take the le blue pill and use DVI instead!
>>57593849
>lol i love the matrix XD
Good try newshit redditor, its actually an alice in wonderland reference.
>>57593862
no it isnt, its from the matrix. f*cking epic though if i could gift you 4chan gold i would!
>>57593849
>>57593893
>le matrix
>all villains are white men
>all noggers are good
>key character "oracle" is black wymyn, corresponding antagonist "architect" is, guess what, a white man
How "redpilled" indeed. Actually, quite to the contrary. But, what can you expect from brothers who eventually became "sisters".
>>57593829
DP has certified cable lists.
>>57592424
>DP 1.4 can run 8k @ 60hz
no it fucking can't.
DP 1.3/1.4 has 25.92 Gb of bandwidth (after 8b10b overhead but before packet overhead), which is only just above 30 Hz, unless you have compression, which isn't mandatory or supported by any existing products yet.
>>57594639
yea it can they have tricks
>>57592252
just watch the TechQuickie video
Correct me if I'm wrong or leave anything out that seems important to mention.
Diplayport
Pros
>Compact design
>Locking mechanism
>Trusted support with higher resolutions
>Supports audio
>no DRM
>Highest resolution support up to 5120×2880 @60hz w/DP 1.4 and without compression
Cons
>Fairly Uncommon except for computer monitors
HDMI
Pros
>Very common for TVs and Monitors
>Gaining hardware upgrades for higher resolutions
>Supports audio
>High enough resolution supporting up to 4096×2160 @60hz w/HDMI 2.0 which is a bit higher than most conventional monitors anyway.
Cons
>DRM faggotry
>No locking mechanism so it slips out fairly easily
DVI
Pros
>Locking mechanism
>No DRM
>backwards compatible with analogue signals and VGA with DVI-I (Dual link)
>Just high enough resolution to support most conventional monitors 2560×1600 @60hz w/ DVI-I (Dual link)
Cons
>Generally just lower resolution and lower performance
>Doesn't support audio
>Pretty much at its upgrade limit

Should've gotten a cable from eBay. Lenovo surplus cables were $5 shipped with a 3-year warranty, super thick insulation too.
>>57594534
Got any links?
>>57593128
144Hz with DP and FreeSync
>>57594639
It can, you seriously don't know how DP works, do you?
>>57592252
DVI is legacy and HDMI is for media setups.
There's nothing to "redpill", DP is the correct standard in computers.
>>57592439
Have there even been any laptops with DVI ports?
>>57597951
og macbook pro
>>57592252
DP is better
>>57593893
>f*cking
Who's the fuck fucking fuck that fucking taught you to fucking write in suck a childish fucking way? If you're going castrate the word you might as well not even use it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4kZUrGBMCA
Normal DP is nice until you get one a shitty, cheap plastic housing that snaps and leaves the metal connector forever stuck inside the port
Im not really a fan of locking connectors
Mini-DP is the best
>>57598302
This. Mini-DP just werks.
>>57592252
If your graphics card supports display port dual mode you can use a passive cable to connect HDMI and DVI-D single link monitors (korean 1440p monitors need an active adapter).
>>57592252
I have a Dell Optiplex 7010 that has two display port outputs on the back (besides the VGA port) and i bought a display port to HDMI cable and use a LCD HDTV for a monitor, i like it better than DVI & VGA
>>57595949
Ok. Now please do the same for all the analog connections (VGA/SCART/Component/RGB/S-video/Composite).
>>57592252
>Redpill me
>>57600085
It means tell me what I want to hear regardless of truth.
>>57595949
you forgot to mention that HDMI carries a 5 volt current to power hdmi accessories such as hubs and switches
