As far as I can tell there is literally nothing about solus that will ever make it stick as a meme.

It has no real defining features to grab onto. Spamming it is like tossing a sphere at a wall and expecting it to stick.
If they're under the impression that gentoo is only a meme because it was spammed and nothing else then they are sorely mistaken about not only this meme but how memes work in general.

Install LXC on your linux distro and then install a gentoo container (there is a template insstalled with LXC by defaut).

sudo lxc-create -n gentoo-01 -t gentoo
sudo lxc-start -n gentoo-01
sudo lxc-attach -n gentoo-01

is basically all it takes and you can start emerging software and using a full gentoo OS from the shell.

Then you'll realize how awesome gentoo really is.
