I installed Budgie on a fresh arch install yesterday for the hell of it.

been using it since release, pretty comfy. I don't consider myself a ----PoWeRuSeR----, I just write small C programs because I'm learning, also browse the web, and play some OpenTTD.

I've used Solus as a live usb just to try out budgie desktop. Chose Solus because it's also a new independent distro.
>>
>>57590081

>>
>>57590126
>lucky
More like you're believing memes.
>>
>>57590108
budgie, seems pretty good but I don't care about customising it.

My only gripe is that packaging for this distro lacks proper docs and seemingly no targets, for example I tried packaging something but literally nothing (gcc, patch, etc) was installed and each had to be got one by one rather than a package group (eg base-devel, build-essnetial, etc) and there was no way to clean up after other than using pm history and dumping it in a text file and editing that all down in to a list to remove with the pm.

It's a far cry from the simplicity and completeness of makepkg, that really needs to be fixed.
>>
>>57590171
It's not the customization.
My main issue is that I can't add program shortcuts to the desktop.
Or that maybe I'm too stupid to figure it out.

Other than that it's a really nice DE and integrated extremely well within Solus.
>>
>>57590165
No. My Wi-Fi driver broke.
>>
>>57590171
To install the gcc and other linux tools all it takes is sudo eopkg it -c system.devel
>>
>>57590274
I must have missed that.
But how to clean up the build deps after? I eneded up with about 200 devel packages installed and no clear/easy way to remove them. Devel packages are dumb enough but it's super unhelpful when they are left around and can affect other builds.
>>
>>57590305
I'm not sure, you'd have to ask Ikey, Josh, or Justin in the #solus channel on the freenode network
>>
>>57590353
>not kevin
>>
>>57590353
I'm reading over it again and it seems like "evobuild" is the way to go: https://wiki.solus-project.com/EvoBuild

Kinda annoying to have to use and keep a chroot up to date to build packages but w/e. It seems my usual way of just having the pm install deps, build the package and then remove the deps isn't supported.
>>
Anyone having a twitch stream of somebody running Solus?
