Hey, /g/. I'm looking to install a new os as my daily driver but I don't know what os I should use.
I was looking at arch but i'm intimidated by the learning curve.
But the AUR sounds really nice.
Another option was ubuntu minimal which i'm much more familiar with.
OSx is a possibility too considering my laptop has fairly good compatibility (hp 2170p)
No matter what os i choose, i will be dual booting windows 8.1 for some light gaymen with friends.
What are your guys' recommendations?

I feel i should mention that my over all experience with linux is very minimal. The most complicated thing i've done is grabbed xinit and alsa-utils from the ubuntu repos when i did ubuntu minimal.
Arch is needlessly complex honestly. My choice for a minimal distro is just standard Debian, as it comes pretty empty. Very little config required, but you can still tweak it as you like.

Debian, huh? I'll take a look at it. Thanks anon
debian is shit for old people who hate new stuff and are ok to wait few years for latest packages
arch is great once its setup up
and its not that difficult
if you AUR tickles your interest but arch seems too difficult then manjaro is pretty nice
If you want access to the AUR, take a look at Antergos. It's basically easy to use Arch.

In my case, a lot of what I use is either very well maintained in the Debian repos, or needs to be built from source anyway (mostly emulators and such). I can see the argument for Arch, but it's too much hassle for not enough gain for me I suppose.
