A lot of people in India actually do have smartphones even though they don't have running water. It might seem bizarre to us, but considering how much you can do with a smartphone compared to toilet, it does seem like the smarter investment. And when you have money for only one of them and you can make do (harhar) without the other, it makes more sense.
