Likely by validating the credibility of the site. It's a good thing, sites like herbalpseudomedicineisreal.com deserve to die.

Election is over, you can stop trying to troll trump supporters and /pol/ now.

The problem is - sites with an agenda will most likely be financed from another party and wont give a fuck if google stops "financing" them.
Credibilty measure trolling on sites that state facts people disagree with will also be a thing.

Well if they're looking to censor opinions I think any reasonable and civil folks would have to be against that.

At the same time, I have to agree that the architecture of social media has fundamentally altered the way that humans receive and process information and we can't keep pretending that the status quo is going to serve the interests of humanity. Our values, media, and perhaps our legislation is going to have to adapt.

It's generally true that "people get the government they deserve" but the fact is we can't afford to leave it at that anymore. When our country was founded there were no nuclear weapons. There was no industrialized revolution. There was no NSA. If country X fucked up, then they fucked up, and maybe they imploded, and that was it. Nowadays if the electorate fucks up, we stand a chance of annihalating human civilization via nuclear war or lack of EPA or by granting or by finding ourselves under the heal of an oligarchy that the general citizenry has no way to depose.

We need to find some way short of censorship to ensure people are getting information that's going to sustain civilization rather than threaten it. We can't allow echo-chambers continue because instead of facilitating enlightened perspectives, the internet now obstructs their formation. We've already fucked up multiple times and the stakes keep getting higher.
>>
>>57546319

>>
>>57549509
The danger isn't even racism; it's simply spreading delusion and misinformation to an effectively captive audience with impunity.
We don't have to use breitbart as an example; that's just the general reality of the dialectic our media fosters. This what happens when you have ulterior motives from ideological or political or business interests mixing with the internet and people looking to be educated.

Except google and every tech company is dodgy and won't do it properly, look at Facebook news, it's broken. Just a little while ago a fake article became very popular due to it, "Mark Zuckerburg dies at age 33". Let's not even go into how convoluted and broken many of the things google does are. In addition, they exist for money. They will certainly take bribes and be coerced in other ways, they have shown that they already have been so. In that their search engine has exceptions and broken functionality with certain events occurring. Too much corruption for it to work.

I don't see the ethical issue with killing the the type of blatantly false stories that tend to blow up on old people facebook (even /pol/ wouldn't stand for this shit), but how? Maybe if there were fewer greedy and/or propagandizing shitsticks and far, far less braindead facebook users, it would be easy enough. As it stands it's a game of whac-a-mole that Adsense and Doubleclick don't seem to be winning with scams and malware.

Fake news will only get bigger as far as I can tell. The target audience for these sites doesn't use adblock, while the target audience for mainstream and ideologically flavored actual news does, so much that they can't get enough revenue to stay alive. Meanwhile I can feed some shit about millennials and the clinton foundation and jesus and whatever else moderately old people like into a markov chain, manually pick out some clickworthy headlines and rake in the ad bucks.
>>
>company does something a company is fully in its right to do
>people bitch constantly about the company instead of just moving to an alternative
Google, Facebook and whoever else wouldn't have any power in this if people didn't use them as much. The issue isn't so much that they're doing this but that for the overwhelming majority of people there's no competition to go to
>>
>>57550001
Wait, are you seriously implying that Trump won't "get into" office? He fucking won the election, he is the next president. There is no debating that.
>>
>>57550363
"fake news" in this context includes a clickbait headline that could reasonably be assumed to be actual news. "Clinton to be indicted on Thursday" or "Cop massacres black protestors at anti-Trump rally" are examples. Clicking through usually leads to an unrelated story, computer generated nonsense, or a poorly written rehash of the headline. Satire has a theme and a purpose, even when done poorly it's distinct from sites that exist solely to collect ad revenue from the clicks of naive old people.
>>
>>57550442
The conspiracy nuts (on the left and right) believe trump electors will start flipping to clinton or pence any day now.
>>
>>57550426
>no competition
It's unrelated to competition. There's *ton* of competition. But metcalfe's law of networking completely destroys traditional notion of markets and competition in case of social networks. It takes immense effort to get snowball rolling there (and zuckerberg played that ball with university secret clubs really well).

Separated networks always converge towards single unified one, just like internet did with computer networks. Unfortunately this convergence currently favors central gatekeepers, mostly because unlike network engineers, people using social botnets are retards.

I think you have an odd view of Trump that sounds more like what he presents himself as. If you start with the supposition that Trump wants to be president, he has a pretty narrow path: he has to go Republican, and he has to go to the people (Dems would never nominate him and he couldn't just be another Jeb Bush/Rubio). So everything he's saying about the wall, about the muslims, about guns, about abortion, about Obama, etc. all makes perfect sense. It displays a very data-driven rationality I think, but also a willingness to act and fool on a level that is probably unprecedented.

Trump is a socializer and an extremely practical person, basically the opposite of Obama.

The only people who should fear Trump are those who put him into power. In my opinion he is a liberal socially and a conservative fiscally, with some protectionist viewpoints.

Also a lot of his supposed bullying is outright fabrications. He says a reporter's name twice in a rally, they say he's siccing the mob on her. He shakes when making fun of a reporter, they say he's mocking a disabled man (does the reporter shake? nobody asked the question). He says the press is dishonest and they call him Hitler. I wonder why he might think the press is dishonest?

>policy based upon science and general welfare lost.
If so, that happened when Bernie lost to Hillary, not when Hillary lost to Trump.
>>
>>57550725
That was due to the Democrats acting undemocratic and undermining the voting during Bernie's campaign.
>>
>>57550717
This version of Trump lost all believability when he started working on cabinet picks. If he was going to take science seriously, what is Myron Ebell doing anywhere in the team, much less the EPA? If the muslim talk was to "fool" panicked midwesterners into voting for a social liberal, why is Kris Kobach drafting a plan for a registry? If he was diverging from the neoliberal path of privatization and budget cuts (which Obama adhered to except with the stimulus act), he would have taken Medicare off the table instead of encouraging Paul Ryan.

Economically, Trump seems to be a standard neoliberal with the exception of immigration policy, where he is weighing a hard-right stance, and climate change, where he is taking the typical GOP pro-natural gas stance. Social policies are hard to gauge at this point, but he buys into the conspiracy theories around climate change and continues to insist he will pick a pro-life judge. Not holding my breath for divergence from the GOP line.

No shit nigger.
Given how much power the POTUS has you are just a step below england in the laughtable scale of retarded decision, if not because at least you actually elect it, instead of using bloodline like it's something that actually matters

>Libya
True. You didn't go to Libya. But you did finance the giant fuckup in Libya.
>Iraq
Let me break down the history rolling up to Iraq:
1. First democratically elected president in the whole Islamic world, Mohammad Mosaddegh of Iran, gets overthrown by USA because of unfounded fears of him turning commie in addition to oil company whining over his intents to nationalize and increase taxes so his people can get better living standards in a fair deal.

The biggest fuckup of the 20th century done by USA. Mosaddegh could easily have been swayed by USA, the Soviets were incompetent fucks in such terms, and Mosaddegh represented Western values. Oil companies probably added oil to the fire in the anti-commie panic which produced this fuckup. You lost what would have been the greatest stabilizing force and ally in the Middle East, much better than Wahabbi Saudi fucks.

2. USA replaces him with a shitty dictator who treated the Iranian people as trash and robbed the country. This event labels the USA as hypocritical since it put the same dictator in power which is usually ideologically denounces (when they are not its puppets).

3. '79 revolution happens, Iranian people go bonkers from hate, and what could have been a democratic ally turns into a fundamentalist country just to spite USA's fuckup.

4. USA tries to repair fuckup and starts supporting Saddam with money and weaponry out the wazoo in the Iraq-Iran war. Weaponry incidentally includes "WMD's (chemicals)", and USA's attempt at repair widens the hate between Shiite and Sunni sides.

5. Saddam fucks up, USA it butthurt and doesn't properly support him, Saddam goes mad, shit paves the way towards the 2000's.

6. USA invades Iraq under the pretense of WMD (that USA incidentally supplied during the Iran-Iraq war if present), to repair the Saddam fuckup.

7. USA leaves tons of weapons and a destroyed country.

8. This leads to the formation of ISIS/ISIL later, another fuckup.

Fuckup, after, fuckup.

This is ripe for abuse, mates.

Breitbart is legitimate but, just because it has a right wing slant doesn't mean it's wrong

There are way, way more left biased news outlets in existence, it would be good to have a balance
>>
>>57551280
What, of course it is, they always slant things to their own bias, which is usually extremely liberal considering how many liberal news outlets there are
>>
>>57551280
Yes it is, retard. There is no such thing as neutral/objective journalism, especially not from the mainstream media.

>We can't allow echo-chambers continue because instead of facilitating enlightened perspectives, the internet now obstructs their formation. We've already fucked up multiple times and the stakes keep getting higher.
You can't fix the problem by going after the symptoms. Echo-chambers are a natural effect of giving free communications to ignorant people. The only solution is strong education.
>>
>>57551301
It is something possible to measure objectively, so long as you don't take a single article to base your conclusion off.

It seems like most people are thinking that Google will look at one article posted by a site and go "that's not real news!" and remove their adsense.

>>

>, the internet now obstructs their formation.
You're wrong here. The internet ALLOWS their obstruction, but in principle, echo chambers are now more easily formed than ever before.
People are guided, via personalised content, into little social groups most similar to themselves. Some fuck clicks werediaper shit and google serves them more werediaper shit, and then you have a werediaper community that's just one big echo chamber for morons.
There's positive feedback on the content that is delivered to people on services like google and facebook- they actively try and deliver more of what you already want, based on your past activity.
To ultimately make you use the site more and see more advertisements, of course.

This effect is called the filter bubble, coined in a book of the same name.,

The articles summed it up pretty well I think. He said the guy who asked the question was strong and could handle it but other people might not be able to.

Trump has a knack for writing stuff that sounds bad out of context and even worse in context.
>>
>>57552167
>sounds bad in context
>saying that war mauls the fuck out of anyone's mental stability and that not everyone can handle it it's bad
Say what you want about trump's speech style, which is basically untranslatable in text, but that's what i got from that response, which i don't think it sounds bad

They're attacking known fake news sites. It really is a problem and I'm glad Google and Facebook are finally doing something.

Plus it seems a strange thing to get mad over.

I mean, isn't not being able to "handle it" what the issue is?
