What's the appeal of a mechanical keyboard?

I don't see what advantages they have over those $20 logitech keyboards you can get at any big box score
>>
>>57521329
Some faggot on /csg/ said his wpm improved by 40 after getting a chink Topre board. Aside from being nice and shiny, MKs are a meme.
>>
>>57521329
they feel better to type on

if you don't notice the difference, congrats, you just saved $100
>>
>>57521329
It helps if you do a lot of typing for you job or find yourself typing a lot at home. Other than that, theyre kinda useless. The whole "mechanical gaming keyboard" thing is a joke.

You don't find non-mech with 60 keys.
>>
>>57521329
It's a combination of luxury and pers pref
>>
>>57521413
if your keyboard has anything less than 101 keys you should kys asap
>>
>>57521413
Personally, I don't really mind. I do believe the type person who is particular about the number of keys on a keyboard would be more of the enthusiast type to begin with and would therefore want a mechanical keyboard anyway
>>
>>57521413
This is another meme. by using a keyboard with 60 keys you create a standard for yourself that isn't universal and that no one else other than certain MK fanatics use. Is typing on fancy PBT keys really worth bringing your keyboard to work everyday?
>>
cherry reds can be good for highly reaction-dependent games

also they can be easier on your hands but there are also rubber dome/chiclet ones that are light to type on so meh

overall it's a meme. Just stick with your normal keyboard unless you want to blow money on a treat for yourself
>>
>>57521457
>bringing your keyboard to work every day
I'm not retarded so I keep one at work.
>>
>>57521527
So what do you use at home? Another expensive 60-key keyboard? That's not only one, but two memes that you've spent your hard earned shekels on.
>>
>>57521648
My work gave me budget to buy my own equipment to bring to an office. Even then, $100 is nothing if it increases my productivity.
>>
Just got one about 1 month ago. They're great: real tactile and responsive. But, in terms of sheer bang for buck, there is ,imo, a clear diminishing return. In short, buy one if they intrigue you.

What is more you don't find non-mech with blank keycaps.

>muh kys
Go back to /v/
>>
>>57521674
Do you honestly believe a mechanical keyboard will increase your productivity? I'm almost certain that's just a placebo
>>
>>57521745
paint is cheaper than a new keyboard
>>
>>57521400
Mech keyboards can improve your skill in gaymin but only if you are able to exceed 1000apm im certain games specifically rythem games like stepmania or osu. I am in the top 100 for stepmania and i would never be able go faster than 20notes per second much less 15 without a mechanical keyboard.
>>
>>57521795

ok pushing things to the limit is totally what /g/ is about.

i hate gamers but you earnt my respect

It's about having a hobby. For me anyways.

I have owned 5 mechanical keyboards. I tried a 60, a TKL, but I love the 104 key layout. I give my old ones to family and friends. I also like the feel of DCS keycaps. Domed keycaps and rubberdome keyboards feel like trash now. Feels cheap.
>>
>>57521763
>fairy dust increases productivity if you believe in it
>it has no value
pick 1
>>
>>57521840
Thanks, other than the situation i explained in my last post mech keyboards dont really serve any purposes other than the feels and a cheap $20 membrane keyboard should work just as well for most
>>
>>57521329
I love typing on them. Rubber dome and 20$ keyboards feel so weird now
>>
>>57521329
I grew up on mechanical. Data entry was pretty big as was typing when typewriters existed. It feels more natural and provides a better feedback. That's in my case. I've had digital KB's before and they work fine generally.
>>
>>57521841
My DASkeyboard is quality. It's so heavy I think I could use it as a weapon to bludgeon someone to death and it would still function.
>>
>>57521329
>I don't see what advantages they have over those $20 logitech keyboards
that's your problem
>>
>>57521329
Easier to type on, simple as that.
>>
CLICKY KEYS!!!!!
>>
>>57521990
>Digital
I don't think you understand what that word means.
>>
>>57521329
I just like the clicky clacky feel and id feel like a cat for not having one.

It's a label that's used not a definition of the keyboard itself or how it works.
>>
>>57521329
I heard they give you better feedback, so you always know if a key press registered or not. Is this true?
>>
buy one, you'll wont be able to go back to a rubber dome board again.
>>
it's a meme. they are quality keyboards but you won't type any faster. if you check out the fastest typist on sites where you can race, it's usually a laptop keyboard or a membrane keyboard user that is in the top.
>>
the N-key rollover was what made me get one.
it's actually highly useful in video games.
>>
>>57522272
DELETE THIS
>>
I don't get fatigued when typing on my mech with browns at home.
I get sore fingers typing at work on a Microsoft Keyboard 400
>>
>>57522306
>the N-key rollover was what made me get one.
That has nothing to do with a keyboard being mechanical or not.
>>
>>57522324
Find me a non-mech that has N-key, or even 10-key.
>>
>>57521329
Feel better to type on, a bit more reliable than rubber domes. This isn't worth it to everyone, of course.
>>
>>57522258
Done and done. My DS3 feels nicer honestly, but that's about it really. Its not like my world has changed and I still type on an old dell keyboard at work
>>
FUCK KEY WOBBLE
FUCK VARYING PRESSURE REQUIRED BASED ON THE ANGLE OF THE KEYPRESS
FUCK KEYS JAMMING UP AGAINST THE SIDE OF OTHER KEYS IF PRESSED FROM A SHARP ANGLE
SOMEONE BUY ME A MECCANO KEYBOARD NOWWW
>>
It's a retarded meme that is worse than headphones or even the audiophiles.
>>
>>57521329
More comfortable, less fatigue.
I can type for hours on the MX blues, and maybe an hour or so at most on a normal kb.
>>
TKL looks cool. I'd buy a decent rubber dome TKL if it existed
>>
>>57522410
Not a meme. Most important features for me are the feedback so i know exactly when I have pressed the button. Also cheap keyboards don't have NKRO or anti-ghosting.
