Because apple feels like their "entry level" devices are their iPads.
Macs are "premium" devices which command a premium price.

Which is awful because Apple needs an affordable entry level computer. But this lineup of computers is dangerously cynical. Each model is designed to push you up another price bracket for every "little bit more" you want.

MacBook should be their affordable entry level device, MBA should be what the MacBook is now, the thin-light one with a few compromises but extreme portability. The Pro.. should be thicker, heavier and capable of serious workloads.

Cook has lost complete touch with the mac lineup.

this. a few years ago you could get a entry level MBP for 1200 EUR. the way apple treats it's non-iDevices is retarded and i suggest they should simply abandon them or at least sell it to someone who is willing to do something with it.
