How's Ubuntu 16.10? Is it more or less stable or is it a buggy mess?
using it right now, mostly okay, the gui has glitched out on me once forcing a restart though

apparently ubuntu lags on my laptop a lot more than arch/antregos does. I switch to antregos instead.

So should I use the 16.10 or 16.04 Xubuntu?

As a newbie to linux I'm a pretty casual user and I don't really understand the point of upgrading to something that might be more buggy/unstable. Is it just for programmers who want the absolute newest versions of certain packages?

Xubuntu 16.04

Stay on LTS versions anon.
Only issue I have found on 16.10 is network manager needs a restart once in a while to let me select a VPN. Otherwise no bugs found same behaviour as 16.04. blue tooth stack is still fookin shit
Stay on 16.04 unless you really need the newer kernel
