Forcing freedom is not a good way to go. If all the software was free, we'd live in a happy world where there'd be no practical distinction between gpl and bsd. Unfortunately that is not true. There always will be proprietary software, and gnu just forces you to join their stupid ecosystem of free software, completely cutting you off from the proprietary. As a matter of fact, gpl ideology pisses off companies that are considering going opensource, because it forces them to either join a sect, or to employ dual licensing. The only requirement for BSD is adding COPYING file to your distribution, whereas GNU tells you to provide the source with the binaries, oh and also make sure that all of the part of your application are in the GNU ecosystem, or else you're breaking your own license.

Think about it this way. If I license my code with GPL, I am sharing it only with a group of GNU neckbeards. If I license under BSD, I share my code with everyone, unconditionally. GPL is like christianity - god says he loves everyone, but if you're not christian, you go to hell.

The whole point of BSD is to give away your software to anybody for any use. There's no such thing as "proprietary abuse" with BSD, because by choosing BSD, you implicitly allow proprietary use. With GPL, on the other hand, you disallow it.
If, however, by abuse you mean "companies not including license/copyrights", then I'll have you know, that this happens to both BSD and GPL projects. Let's establish a few things first.
- You're not gaining anything (in and of itself) by releasing free soft.
- Therefore, any software that you make, you could release as proprietary. (except those that use GPL'd portions, for obvious reasons)
- So, you could, or you could not "give back to the community", by writing code.
- Thousands of gnu/linux users don't even know how to code
- Therefore, they don't give back to the community, at all.
- Everyone seems to be ok with the fact, that not everyone is contributing.
- Considering all of the above, there are only two reasons you'd want to write oss:
1) have your name on every derivative app, so that you can show off to your friends/boss/mom
2) just helping out another human being for no reward whatsoever

Both BSD and GPL provide you with those, except with GPL the #2 sounds more like "helping out, only if they are also gnutards", which is why I think GPL provides less freedom than BSD.

I don't understand how can you even "allow abuse" in a license. By default, copyright system gives copyright holder all the rights. You can't revoke those. Licenses allow you to share rights with other people, but you still have copyright.
Again, as I said, there's no "attack on people's freedom" when you use BSD. With BSD you just allow everyone to use your code. You GIVE them freedom to do so.

BSD runs on locked down laptops, game consoles and routers.
Linux runs on smartphones, servers, desktops, laptops, routers, supercomputers, literal toasters, mainframes, render farms, hypervisors etc etc.

This difference is caused by the way in which all GPL development benefits all GPL users and developers, versus when with BSD you can limit who it really benefits.
