This piece of shit is my laptop. I didn't choose it, it was given to me. Max display resolution is 1366x768. Linux works horribly on it, onboard microphone doesn't work. Trackpoint is unusable. On top of that it's big and heavy as fuck. On the plus side it came with a 500 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM and i5-3320M @ 2.6 GHz quad core processor, and an Nvidia card w/ 1 GB VRAM - not much by today's standards, but still.
Should I get a new laptop? I want to go back to a ThinkPad, something with equal performance at least.

Old latitudes were shit because the screen hinge broke off constantly, they were otherwise great laptops.

You can get a replacement 1600x900 panel off eBay for like $50, I've done that on Latitude E6xxx series models for years now without any issues. The hinges are fine as long as you're not some dickhead that doesn't give a fuck and constantly opens the lid from the sides (that stresses hinges off-center and would kill any hinge on any laptop over time).

Linux should work well on that and the track pad drivers under Linux are good too. The rest of your complaints are justified.
