Years ago, my coworker and I noticed a single, printed page taped up on a wall in the office. It was a small font, maybe 6pt or so. We got in close and read it. It was a job listing for a SQL DBA. $60k salary.

At the time, that job should have had an $80k - $90k salary for that level of experience. But their goal was to keep the position open for Pajeet so they could renew his H1-B.

I have no idea why they were so married to the guy. He was incompetent as fuck. I was lead on a project and basically had to run circles with him and flat out demand that he write scripts rather than make updates directly on the production server. The cherry on top was that I told him when he finished the assigned task, to come let me know. I wasn't sure he knew who I was, so I said, "you know where my desk is, right? Right over there in the corner office." He nodded and never fucking showed up. I wasted half a day waiting for him to finish something he'd done, but not bothered to follow through by notifying me. That greasy fucker.

Industry salaries were pretty much stagnant from the dot Com bust until very recently. And, to my knowledge, the only jobs with increasing salary are at the likes of Google, where you're generally going to need a top-ranked school to get in.
