Since Trump has said he wants to promote American industry and literally no computer parts are made in America, does that mean we will have to pay more for our technology now?
>>
>>57448706
>literally no computer parts are made in America
GPUs
>>
American made goods typically cost more so yea

Think again

CEO of NVIDIA is Chinese
CEO of AMD is Taiwanese

NVIDIA 10xx are made by TSMC
AMD RX4xx are made by TSMC
Also basically all ARM SoCs are made by TSMC

Globalfoundries (though now owned by arabs) and Intel are tha real MVPs
>>
>>57448774
Wrong. Poolaris chips are made by Globalfoundries
>>
>>57448774
nVidia, Intel, and AMD are all American companies. As is Microsoft, Google, and Apple.

An American company hiring a Chinese guy does not turn it into a Chinese company.
>>
>>57448789
But hiring a gay turns it into gay company.
Oh wait
>>
>>57448785
I don't see how that's possible seeing as GlobalFoundries hasn't got FinFET facilities yet

>>57448789
but anon, the point OP was asking about was " literally no computer parts are made in America"
and the other guy said GPUs are made in America.

I contested those things, and I think at least part of the reason the CEOs are chinks and it's to better relations with the overseas manufacturers.
>>
>>57448789
The point is they're not independent from foreigners and Trump's plan will either drive prices up or not work.
>>
At least now I can get a job without acting like someone's bitch.
>>
>>57448706
Look at it this way, they'll be a little more expensive, but they won't be really shitty like typical chink shit.
>>
>>57448981
Although it might be cheaper to continue to make the parts in China, but they'll make them even worse quality so that they cost the same to produce and sell.
>>
Now you have will have more money to pay for your hardware.
>>
In Europe, you already pay more for parts. But the worst part, Internet Freedom will go away. I'm so worried that I will get raided for running Tor nodes (I run 4 relays, and 1 bridge).

Well, I'll now start browsing through Tor for everything.
>>
>>57448828
>they're not independent from foreigners
No mega-corporation company is 100% local. This will not change, regardless of who won.

...unless I am misunderstanding the situation. It is not like Trump wants to kick out foreigners who are legally there, no?
>>
>>57448706
Yes, and for various reasons.

1. If he kicks out the H1 visa contractors, prices of the their final products will go up. A lot of the industry relies on cheap labor (both on the mainland and overseas).

2. If he does as he said and brings back the American Industry, things will also get more expensive. Most computer parts are made on China or other cheap labor countries: Intel manufactures most CPUs on Costa Rica, a lot of laptops are ensemble on Brasil. Nothing is made in the US.

3. If he fucks up the commercial treaties with latam, india and most Asia (like he said he will) the US dollar will suffer and things will also more expensive.
>>
Companies are switching to robots for manufacturing, there still will be no jobs

All the retards that voted for Trump are really uneducated morons that don't understand reality
>>
>>57448995
But if minwage is 7.25, and companies want to turn similar profits to what they get now, they'll have to charge much more for a product. The poorfags are still getting fucked over no matter what.
>>
>>57448774
>CEO is...
That means absolutely nothing, retard. The company is still American. There's no reason to stop cooperation with other companies either, nothing will actually change.

They do

But from a deal with samsung, samsung also has their texas foundry
>>
Tech is trivially cheap. If importers want market share they can fight for it by selling at lower margins. Computers and phones are already good for several years and consumers already have more options than they need.
>>
>>57449036

The only way to promote an national industry that is losing out because they don't have a comparative advantage (in this case cheap labor) is by subsidiaries and protective custom duties.

What this means in practice though is that either the state is paying a company to stay in business, or it making outsiders pay more to get into the country. In the first case the state obviously have to tax payer's money to fund the subsidies while in the latter the outsider has to drive up prices to recover losses from paying his duties. Alternatively the outsider might chose to not export into the state, and the consumer has to instead pick between national products who can afford to charge more because there's less competition pressure thanks to the protective duty.

>what i think is best for everyone is best for everyone

No, it means we have to restart IBM's PC business and move it back to the U.S. Why do you think he built a tower blocking the view of the IBM building in Chicago? He wants their attention.

>Manufacturing jobs left the USA primarily because of the numerous legislations and laws passed buy local state and federal government. This can be a myriad of anything or many things such as lunch breaks vacation time safety laws EPA laws pollution road laws housing.

Totally forgot the biggest problem in the USA and that is labor unions. They single-handedly killed the Auto industry in the United States.

But yeah, almost all of them are in China/Taiwan/Singapore, but all 3 (tsmc, samsung, glofo) own at least one plant in the US. Hell glofo even has one in Germany
>>
>>57450004
It doesn't really matter at this point as the new wave of robots requires much fewer workers. If anything, the US needs better education so that people who would have well-paying factory jobs can take advantage of new opportunities. The current K-12 education is abysmal. Most of these people shouldn't be allowed into higher education.
>>
>>57450744
>>57450004
With things like CNC, Industrial Robotics, PLCs, 3D Printing and other manufacturing technologies I don't see how some jobs won't come back or new one's get created

CPUs, GPUs.

Fag.
>>
>>57450794
There will be new jobs and some are already coming back (the white goods division in particular has seen the return of high end manufacturing back to the US) but how many of these workers are ready to handle these jobs?
>>
Protip: The only things that decides how expensive computer parts are the buyers themselves.

As long as people are buying GTX 1080 cards for $600 they will cost $600. If people stopped buying those cards when the prices will keep dropping until the cards are on a price that people are willing to pay.
>>
>>57450844
That's incorrect. Supply is big problem for chipmakers. I hope you know a good deal about some technology other than semiconductors, otherwise kindly fuck off this board.

>>57453644
This ain't 1950. You do not need masses of people to run a factory. If you force companies to repatriate manufacturing, you'll wind up with a lot of high-tech, heavily-automated factories. They'll hire a small handful of engineers and technical specialists, and then hang a sign out front saying "The unskilled need not apply".

The US already manufactures more goods than ever before, and aside from a blip in the recession, it's been a steady story of making more and more things while manufacturing employment relentlessly declines.

The economy of today, and of tomorrow, has no need for unskilled labor. Sure, they'll use it if it's really cheap. Far below the wages American workers can legally be paid. But if labor can't be had that cheaply, they'll simply substitute capital for it. Neither Trump nor anyone else can change this, since you can't un-invent things.
>>
>>57453694
Seriously this, I'm pushing my ceo and board to buy a couple of robots specifically to replace jobs

The benefits to the business extend much further than just production wages
>>
>>57448706
Hopefully the tax reduction and tariffs will bring some of the manufacturers INTO the US

That is the plan at least. Also, companies will get a 5% tax reduction if the move BACK into the US, so that is even more incentive
>>
>>57453521
Are you retarded? You can't just shut down websites... If you're meaning to say that he will crack down on internet privacy, then that's a valid statement.
>>
Make it illegal to import anything but bare ressources. Give a three year period till you enact this. Corporations prepare by moving production into the US -> You're actually productive again -> Economy fixed.
And since you've got this third world minimum wage stuff's not even getting much more expensive.

Hard to say. He says he wants a 35% tariff on chinese goods. Which is a LOT of stuff that burgers buy.

Then again he might just be trying to scare China into negotiating a better trade deal with the US. Making it easier for the US to sell goods in China for example.

Who can say. Ultimately no one really knows what Trump will do.
>>
>>57457763
He said from the very start that he can easily get Mexico to pay for the wall by:
1) Deducting the cost of the wall from aid paid to mexico.
2) Putting tariffs on goods from mexico

Doubt either will happen because I can't imagine the wall really getting built. At least not in the way he's been claiming.
